  • Tomato potato psyllid, a destructive insect pest has been discovered in Western Australia

    The Department of Agriculture and Food is urging home gardeners to do their bit to help stop the spread of the tomato potato psyllid, a destructive insect pest which has been discovered in Western Australia.

    The psyllid feeds on a range of plants, including potato, tomato, eggplant, capsicum, chilli, tamarillo and sweet potato. Many of these vegetables are widely grown in backyard plots.

    The tomato potato psyllid was first detected in Perth in February and has since been found on more than 60 properties, including commercial horticulture properties and home gardens. The majority of detections have been in the metropolitan area, with a small number confirmed in regional areas.

  • Smyth Road: Kerbing Works

    The City has appointed Contractors, All State Kerbing to undertake kerbing improvements from Tuesday 9 May 2017 to Wednesday 10 May 2017, from 10.00 am to 1.00 pm in the following sections of Smyth Road:

    • A 200 metre section on the west side north of Monash Avenue to the traffic divider opposite the tennis courts
    • A 20 metre section of Smyth Rd near Carrington Street

    Traffic management will include the placement of traffic cones where the work will be undertaken along with assistance being provided by the workforce on site.

    Your support would be appreciated if you could progress through or around the area in a safe manner.

    The City has appointed Civcon Civil to undertake the reconstruction of the roundabout at Nagal Pass, Stubbs Terrace.

    This work will be undertaken on the weekend of 27-28 May, with work commencing on Friday 26 May 2017. The hours of work will be undertaken between 9.00 am to 6.00 pm on Friday, and 7.00 am to 6.00 pm Saturday. Curing of the concrete will occur during Saturday night and Sunday.

    The road will be closed from 9.00 am on Friday through to early Sunday evening. The closure will enable the demolition, construction and curing of the new roundabout to be undertaken in a safe and efficient manner.

    During the closure, traffic controllers will be on-site during the day and late into the night to provide advice on the diversion route as required.

  • Marlows Wall Refurbishment

    Refurbishment works on the wall is progressing well with the work being expected to be completed by the end of April.

    The works will improve the safety, aesthetics and functionality of the wall which separates the John XXIII College from the road reserve and include re-construction (where required), re-mortaring, re-pointing and bracing of the wall. Some sections at the southern end will require re-positioning back from the embankment.

    Please remain clear of the work site whilst the repairs are underway.

  • Bicycle Pump Track, College Park Youth Recreation Area - programmed maintenance works

    Maintenance on the Bicycle Pump Track, College Park Youth Recreation Area was originally scheduled for March 2017, however there has been a delay in contractor availability. As a result the work is now scheduled for commencement in late May. We apologise for any inconvenience caused.

    The works include installing drainage and preparing for an asphalt surface. These works are designed to extend the life of the facility, to be more functional following rain events and reduce ongoing maintenance costs.

    It would be appreciated if Park Users refrain from using the track whilst the works are progressing.

  • Street Signage Upgrades

    Street signage is being upgraded across the City over the next 6 months. This program is undertaken as part of the City’s maintenance programs to improve the visibility of the signage as well as providing consistency in design standards.

    Areas of Mt Claremont are a focus as there is still signage that was installed by the Developer which has either faded or sustained damage making it difficult to see and read.


    The program of works is as follows:

    • Floreat: Completed
    • Mt Claremont (Between Stephenson and Mooro Drive): Currently underway
    • Mt Claremont (Between Mooro Drive and Alfred Road/Brockway): May 2017
    • Mt Claremont (Between Cottesloe Golf Course and Mooro Avenue): June 2017
    • Mt Claremont (St Peter’s Square): July 2017

    During the upgrade process, there will be some instances due to visibility issues where existing poles may need to be relocated or replaced. However in most circumstances the only change will be the replacement of the sign blade itself.

  • All Abilities Play Space - Landscaping to commence shortly

    The landscaping of Beaton Park in preparation for the All Abilities Play Space is about to commence. The area will be closed to the public whilst construction proceeds. You will also notice that the nearby barbecues will also be disconnected.

    Whilst this work is being undertaken, the City will be commencing the purchase of the play equipment.
