Daran Park (Mt Claremont Lakes) Resurfacing Program
Share Daran Park (Mt Claremont Lakes) Resurfacing Program on Facebook Share Daran Park (Mt Claremont Lakes) Resurfacing Program on Twitter Share Daran Park (Mt Claremont Lakes) Resurfacing Program on Linkedin Email Daran Park (Mt Claremont Lakes) Resurfacing Program linkCLOSED: This discussion has concluded.Resurfacing of the Mt Claremont Lakes has been completed. Whilst undergoing routine cleaning maintenance of both top and bottom lakes in July 2016 it was identified that there were issues with the base liner in the top lake. The liner was over 25 years old and badly deteriorated in several spots. The bottom lake had also suffered similar but less severe degradation.
As a result investigations were undertaken to identify options for replacing the liner which included shotcreting; concreting; plastic or hardened rubber liner; and fibreglassing for a suitable base and walls of the lake.
Shotcreting which is a combination of concrete and a fibreglass water holding product called Xypex, was hose blasted onto a reinforced steel mesh chain link. Before the shotcreting could commence, the base of the lake was reconfigured to meet Australian Safety Standards and to meet the water holding capacity required for the nine irrigated parks in the Mt Claremont area.
Shotcrete and associated works were completed during September 2016.
The lake is currently full and undergoing test pumping for the irrigation cycles required for the parks in the Mt Claremont area. At this early stage, the holding capacity is 1.4 million litres of water with no recorded loss in this top lake.

This survey is undertaken every three to four years by the City and once again it has received a high performance score as being a preferred place to live, a leading governing organisation and providing waste collection services. Scores were compared to other WA Councils and against a national database.
The community identified priority areas of footpaths and cycle-ways, management of trees, parking and traffic management, planning and building, and underground power. It is pleasing to see that the community’s priorities align with the City’s priorities as it is proactively working on these.
The report findings will be considered as part of the 4-year review of the Community Strategic Plan.
