The weather was fantastic for the Nedlands Engaging the Ageing Expo on Wednesday 19 October, and the new venue at the Adam Armstrong Pavilion was great!

Volunteers from Rotary Nedlands cooked a mountain of sausages for lunch for everyone, giving out hotdogs with a smile and demonstration of Laughter Yoga, Tai Chi and Line Dancing were enjoyed by all.

The WA police delivered a very useful and well received talk on staying safe in and around our homes and the mounted policewomen and their fabulous horses gave insight on what role the mounted police unit plays in keeping our city safe.

Thank you to everyone who donated a gold coin, we collected nearly $100 which will be given to the Arthritis and Osteoporosis WA branch. Also to everyone who completed the survey, we are pleased to announce our survey winner is Mavis Poole who wins a $50 Coles/Myers voucher.

Council at its meeting on 23 August 2016 approved the partial closure of Nidjalla Loop at the intersection with Alfred Road, to allow for left turn only onto Alfred Road and to take effect on 4 October 2016.

The City is waiting on Main Roads WA for final approval for the signage and line marking on the proposed treatment. The construction works will follow on shortly after receipt of the approval.

The City has installed reflective cones mimicking the proposed treatment.

Variable signage messages have been installed at the site advertising of the pending partial closure.

The purpose and effect of this closure is to prevent access from Alfred Road to Nidjalla Loop, preventing traffic from accessing the former Swanbourne High School Subdivision site via this intersection.

The City has commenced road resurfacing and associated works on Swansea Street between Jameson and Greenville Streets. The work is expected to take four weeks, however the works may take up to six weeks if weather conditions impede the works.

Works are being undertaken during weekdays, between 7:00 am and 5:00 pm.

Traffic management plans are in place to assist pedestrians and motorists to detour the site and to ensure that local traffic have access whilst road closures are in place. On-site traffic controllers will be happy to assist, however there will be periods of time (approximately 4 hours) following the laying of new asphalt road surface where entry to properties cannot be permitted due to ensuring that the bitumen dries and doesn't track into the properties.

Reticulation will be temporarily re-routed during this period. The City will repair any reticulation in the verge if damaged during the works. Please ensure that you test your reticulation system and report any faults to the City within two weeks of the works being completed. After this period the City cannot be held responsible for repairs.

    The works will include:

    Works Description

    Scheduled Dates

    Kerb removal

    4-5 October

    Site preparation

    6 October

    Drainage pit adjustments*

    7–10 October

    Preparation works

    10–13 October

    Road resurfacing

    14–19 October

    New kerbing works^

    20 October

    Finishing works

    24–28 October

*Drainage pits: existing gully grates and frames will be replaced with new square wave grated covers.

^Kerbing and reticulation will be replaced and upgraded with new standard semi-mountable kerbing.

Council considers that these will mutually benefit the ratepayers, residents, businesses, pedestrians and road users of the City and your cooperation is greatly appreciated.

For further enquiries please contact the Robbie Black, Engineering Projects Coordinator, telephone (08) 9273 3500, email council@nedlands.wa.gov.au.
