Daran Park (Mt Claremont Lakes) Resurfacing Program
Resurfacing of the Mt Claremont Lakes has been completed. Whilst undergoing routine cleaning maintenance of both top and bottom lakes in July 2016 it was identified that there were issues with the base liner in the top lake. The liner was over 25 years old and badly deteriorated in several spots. The bottom lake had also suffered similar but less severe degradation.
As a result investigations were undertaken to identify options for replacing the liner which included shotcreting; concreting; plastic or hardened rubber liner; and fibreglassing for a suitable base and walls of the lake.
Shotcreting which is a combination of concrete and a fibreglass water holding product called Xypex, was hose blasted onto a reinforced steel mesh chain link. Before the shotcreting could commence, the base of the lake was reconfigured to meet Australian Safety Standards and to meet the water holding capacity required for the nine irrigated parks in the Mt Claremont area.
Shotcrete and associated works were completed during September 2016.
The lake is currently full and undergoing test pumping for the irrigation cycles required for the parks in the Mt Claremont area. At this early stage, the holding capacity is 1.4 million litres of water with no recorded loss in this top lake.
