The City has now completed stage 1 of the Point Resolution Greenway. This project expanded the existing Greenway corridor at Point Resolution Reserve by revegetating part of the grassed parkland with local provenance seedlings. This project involved removing invasive weeds during March and April and installing certified mulch and 3500 water-wise, low-growing, locally occurring native shrubs and ground covers in June. This project has increased the area of bushland at Point Resolution and it assists the City to protect biodiversity, improve habitats and connectivity for local fauna as well as increasing the City’s capacity to absorb greenhouse gas emissions.

Environmental weed control in the City's bushland and reserve areas will be progressing during July to September 2016. The weed control is being undertaken to control perennial and annual grass weeds and invasive geophytic weeds, commonly known as corms, bulbs and tubers.

The weed control being undertaken is weather dependent and as a result, exact dates for spraying cannot be confirmed. However, signage will be displayed at the sites where weed control is being undertaken.

Currently contractors are undertaking grass control at Allen Park in Swanbourne. Birdwood Parade and Hollywood Reserve works have been completed. Once the remainder of the grass control program is complete, contractors will start targeting invasive bulbous weeds in August.

The City has been working with residents living within, and in the proximity of the old Swanbourne High School precinct to address a range of traffic issues. During December 2015, Council requested officers to consider a range of options to address resident concerns, and to prepare a further report for Council consideration.

A range of options was developed and feedback sought from the community, in particular those residents directly affected in the Swanbourne High School Subdivision (SGSS) site and the nearby residents of the Town of Claremont.

The outcomes from the engagement activities were assessed to find solutions which were supported by the majority of residents and ratepayers.

Please read the updates on the engagement page, how the works will be implemented.

Ongoing updates on this project will be provided in the Stay Updated Page.

The artwork commissioned for the Nagal Pass Public Artwork has received the thumbs up from motorists. The artwork “The Grandis Leaf“ was developed and designed by visual artist Leanne Bray over the past 12 months, in response to the Public Art Project run by the Nedlands Arts Committee.

The artwork has been installed against the 30 metre long retaining wall at Nagal Pass and Stubbs Terrace in Karrakatta.

Part of the Artist's intention was to capture the City’s history including the years before European settlement including its river, beaches and bushlands that provided an abundant home for the traditional owners of the area, the Noongar people.

The purpose of the artwork is to bring to mind the natural flora and fauna of the area before development and has used the artwork to indicate where there was an abundance of native plants and as a reminder of how civilisation can be ruthless when it comes to progress.

In the coming weeks, the area will be landscaped and City’s Park staff will plant two large and two medium sized Banksias adjacent to the artwork and smaller Banksias on the ground around the base.
