Local Planning Policies - Reviews and Development

The City's review of local planning policies seeks to update the City’s administrative, issue and area-specific policies to ensure they are relevant and facilitate appropriate community views and development outcomes. These reviews will also meet current legislative requirements.

The City regularly invites submissions for all newly drafted or amended local planning policies for a minimum of 21 days as they are developed and approved by the Council for community engagement purposes.

This site provides all notices of drafted and amended policies, information on the status of policies and provides you with the opportunity to give feedback.

The City believes community input provides valuable information to assist the Council in making decisions regarding approval of policies.

How can you get involved, find out more or provide feedback?

  • Local Planning Policy: Waratah Village Laneway Adopted March Special Council Meeting

    The Council at their Special Council Meeting in March 2020 resolved to adopt the Waratah Village Laneway Local Planning Policy. The policy provides laneway requirements for the establishment of the Waratah Village Laneway. The report to Council can be found on the City's website under Council/Agendas, Minutes and Reports.


  • Advertising Draft LPP – Interim Built Form Design Guidelines – Broadway Mixed Use Zone

    The Council at their Special Council Meeting in January 2020 resolved to prepare and advertise the Draft Local Planning Policy Interim Built Form Design Guidelines – Broadway Mixed Use Zone. This policy provides guidance on the planning and design of development within the Broadway Mixed Use Zone.

  • Advertising Draft LPP - Design Review Panel

    The Council at their Special Council Meeting in January 2020 resolved to prepare and advertise the Draft Local Planning Policy Design Review Panel. The purpose of this policy is to outline the operation of the City of Nedlands Design Review Panel.

    This policy is available for viewing in the document library and available for comment via submission form. Submissions closed 5pm 7 March 2020.


  • Advertising Draft LPP - Doonan Road, Jenkins Avenue, Vincent Street, Laneway and Built Form Requirements

    The Council at their Special Council Meeting in January 2020 resolved to prepare and advertise the Draft Local Planning Policy Doonan Road, Jenkins Avenue, Vincent Street, Laneway and Built Form Requirements. This policy provides laneway requirements for the establishment of a laneway between 16 and 18 Doonan Rd, Nedlands through to the 19 and 21 Vincent St, Nedlands. The laneway will run on an east-west axis.

  • Council Approves a range of Local Planning Policies at December Council Meeting

    The Council at their Meeting on in December 2019 resolved to:

    • Prepare and advertise a range of policies these included; the Waste Management Local Planning Policy, the Residential Aged Care Facilities Local Planning Policy and the Waratah Village Laneway Requirements Local Planning Policy.
    • Adopt the Residential Development Local Planning Policy – Please note that Clause 4.8 requires approval from the West Australian Planning Commission in line with the State Planning Policy 7.3 Residential Design Codes Volume 2 Section 1.2.3.

  • Council Adopts Short Term Accommodation Local Planning Policy

    The Council at their Meeting in November 2019 resolved to adopt the Short Term Accommodation Local Planning Policy. The purpose of this policy is to provide guidance and development provisions for operators seeking to establish short-term accommodation within the City of Nedlands.

  • Council Adopts Parking Local Planning Policy

    The Council at their Meeting in September 2019 resolved to adopt the Parking Local Planning Policy. The purpose of this policy is to define standards for car parking for non-residential and residential developments.

    Please note that the Residential Parking Ratios require approval from the West Australian Planning Commission in line with the State Planning Policy 7.3 Residential Design Codes Volume 2 Section 1.2.3.

  • Re-advertise: Local Planning Policy – Residential Development: Single and Grouped Dwellings

    The City resolved to proceed with and advertise for a period of 21 days the Residential Development: Single and Grouped Dwellings Local Planning Policy at the 24 September 2019 Council Meeting.

    The purpose of the policy is to provide guidance and supplementary requirements to Local Planning Scheme 3 (LPS 3) and State Planning Policy 7.3 Residential Design Codes Volume 1 (R-Codes Vol.1) in relation to single and grouped dwelling developments within the City.

  • Council to consider waste management, parking and residential development policies

    The following draft local planning policies (LPP) are being presented to the Council Committee meeting on Tuesday, 24 September as follows:

    PD38.19: Local Planning Scheme 3 - Local Planning Policy - Waste Management and Guidelines

    This policy is being prepared for advertising for a period of 21 days.

    PD39.19: Local Planning Scheme 3 - Local Planning Policy - Parking

    This policy is being presented for adoption and is being presented for approval and referral to the Western Australian Planning Commission for final approval.

    PD40.19: Local Planning Scheme 3 - Local Planning Policy - Residential Development: Single and Grouped Dwellings

    This policy is being prepared for re-advertising for a period of 21 days.

    The Council at its August 2019 Council Meeting resolved to prepare and advertise for a period of 21 days the Short Term Accommodation Local Planning Policy.

    The purpose of the policy is to provide guidance and development provisions for operators seeking to establish short-term accommodation within the City of Nedlands.

    The policy is available for comment and viewing in the document library or the City of Nedlands Administration Building - 71 Stirling Highway, Nedlands.
