    Shenton College have appointed Cockram Construction to undertaken works to connect the College's new car park to Stubbs Terrace.

    These works will include re-alignment and road surfacing works on Stubbs Terrace between Selby Street and the roundabout to Railway Road, commencing on Wednesday 6 December, for a five week period.

    Road and lane closures restrictions will be in place with detours around the work site to assist with ensuring vehicle and pedestrian movements occur in a safe and efficient manner.

    Between Monday 8 January and Wednesday 17 January, the contractors will not be allowing access for traffic movements to Shenton College and Grace Vaughan House.

    On-site traffic controllers will assist motorists and pedestrians to move safely around the work site.

    Variable message boards are onsite advising motorists of the change.

    The Department of Main Roads is replacing the the Ashton Avenue Bridge over the railway in Claremont in early 2018 with a new modern steel and concrete structure. It replaces the old timber bridge which is more than 100 years old. To find out more download the Project Update (October 2017) from the document library.

    From late November, Western Power will be on-site to relocate power services. For safety reasons, some of this work will be completed during night works on 30 November and between 10 and 15 December. Western Power’s work also requires 24-hour bridge closures between 27 November and 1 December followed by possible night closures between 10 and 15 December. Signed detours will be in place during any closures. Some single lane closures on the bridge should also be expected at times.

    Once all pre-construction activity is completed, Main Roads’ bridge works will begin in January 2018 with demolition currently scheduled for mid-February. During construction, signed detours will be in place to maintain local traffic flow. There will also be periods of night works to safely complete construction tasks in the rail reserve during scheduled railway shutdowns. The new bridge is expected to open in mid-2018.

    The City will be undertaking maintenance works to the footpath along the north side of Princess Road between Broadway and Tyrell Street (see map below) from Monday, 11 December 2017 for a period of up to two weeks.

    The works will include the removal of a slab footpath and installing a new formed concrete pathway and exclude the sections previously upgraded from a concrete slab to formed concrete.

    The reticulation will be adjusted to accommodate the new wider path and the City will liaise directly with the affected residents. If you are a resident or property owner, please test the reticulation following completion of the work. If you have any concerns, please report these to the City within two weeks, as after this time the City cannot accept liability.

    The City recognises the need for access to residences and will seek to minimise disruption as much as possible.

    Main Roads WA are preparing to replace Ashton Avenue Bridge in 2018 and over the next few weeks pre-construction activity will be undertaken by Western Power and the Public Transport Authority.

    From late November 2017, Western Power will be on-site to relocate power services. For safety reasons, some of this work will be completed during night works on 30 November and between 10 and 15 December. This work is not expected to generate significant noise or affect power supplies. Western Power’s work also requires complete 24-hour bridge closures from 6pm on 27 November to 6am on 2 December, followed by possible night closures between 10 and 15 December.

    Detours will be in place for road users (to see the map - please click on the heading above to view map), with pedestrian access maintained. Some single lane closures on the bridge should also be expected at times.

    The City has contracted the company, All West to carry out upgrades to the drainage catchment in the above roads during November 2017 for a period of up to five weeks.

    The works will include preparatory works (removal of kerbing, capping of reticulation etc.), installation of new drainage pits and soak wells. All works will include kerb reinstatement and reticulation repairs. The schedule for the works follow:

    • Rochdale Road: 14 to 20 November 2017
    • Strickland Street: 21 to 22 November 2017
    • Alfred Road: 23 November to 1 December 2017

    Kerb reinstatement, backfilling and reticulation repairs will be undertaken from 4 to 5 December 2017.

    The work will be undertaken during weekdays between the hours of 7am and 3:30pm with the exception of the works on Alfred Road which will commence from 9am.

    Road closures will be in place while the works are being undertaken with detours around the work site. Local traffic will continue to have access during this time and on-site traffic controllers will assist pedestrians and motorists to move safely around the work site.

    Where necessary the reticulation will be temporarily re-routed. The City may accidentally damage the reticulation in the verge during the works and will ensure any damage is rectified. If you are a property owner, please ensure that you test the reticulation system and report any faults to the City within two weeks of the works being completed. After this period, the City cannot be held responsible for repairs.

    City contractors will be undertaking environmental weed control works throughout the City during November 2017 on the city's road kerbs, traffic islands, footpaths, and shared use paths to eradicate annual and perennial weeds and grasses.

    Due to the unpredictable nature of weather conditions, exact dates for spraying cannot be confirmed.
    Treatment will be undertaken using a herbicide (glyphosate) by licensed contractors with the operations monitored by City officers to ensure the works and application of the herbicide complies with all safety, product and legislative requirements.

    This treatment will not apply to residents who are on the City's non-spray register.

    Traffic management will be undertaken during the treatment period. Signage as required by the Health (Pesticides) Regulations 2011 will also be clearly displayed on the contractor's vehicles.

    The City has appointed Roads2000 to undertake road resurfacing and associated works on Dalkeith Road, between Melvista Avenue and Vix Street from Monday 9 October for up to a period of five weeks.

    These works will be undertaken during weekdays, from 7am to 5pm. The schedule for the works follow:

    • Preparation works (e.g. capping of reticulation, installation of signage, paint markings): 2-6 October
    • Kerb removal and base reinstatement: 9-11 October
    • Installation of new drainage pits: 11-12 October
    • Road profiling: 13 October
    • Asphalt corrector and primer seal: 16-17 October
    • Installation of new semi-mountable kerbs: 18-19 October
    • Remove and reinstate crossover aprons: 19-20 October
    • Reticulation Repairs: 19– 20 October
    • Asphalt Installation: 23– 26 October
    • Finishing works: 24-26 October

    Local Traffic - Access and Road Closures

    Road closures will be in place with detours around the work site whilst this project is being undertaken.
    Local traffic will continue to have access whilst closures are in place, however there will be periods of up to four hours when access to properties will need to be restricted to allow the bitumen laying to be completed. On-site traffic controllers will be happy to assist during this time.

    Reticulation

    Where necessary, reticulation will be temporarily re-routed. This may result in the reticulation in the verge being damaged whilst the works are being undertaken. Any damage during this period will be repaired by the City.

    However, if you are a property owner or resident, please ensure that the reticulation system is tested and report any faults to City within two weeks of the works being completed. After this period the City cannot be held responsible for repairs.

    The City has contracted, Roads2000 to undertake road resurfacing and associated works on Iris Avenue between Beatrice Road and Birdwood Parade. The works are scheduled to commence from Monday, 2 October for a period of up to six weeks. The works will include:

    • Installation of new drainage pits and profiling of the street: 9-10 October
    • Primer sealing: 10-11 October
    • Installing new semi-mountable kerbing installation: 11-12 October

    • Asphalt installation: 17-19 October
    • Reticulation repairs: 18-19 October
    • Finishing works: 23-24 October

    Access and Road Closures

    Road closures will be in place with detours around the work site. Local traffic will continue to have access whilst closures are in place. There will be on-site traffic controllers who will be happy to assist whilst the works are being undertaken.

    There will be periods of time (approximately 4 hours) following the laying of new asphalt road surface where vehicle access cannot be permitted. The laying of new asphalt requires a drying time to ensure bitumen doesn't stain property accesses.

    Reticulation

    It may be necessary to temporarily re-route verge reticulation. The City will repair any reticulation if damaged during the works.

    Residents, please ensure that you test your reticulation system and report any faults to City of Nedlands within two weeks of the works being completed. After this period the City of Nedlands cannot be held responsible for repairs.

    The City have appointed Civcon Civil to undertaken rehabilitation works on the following footpaths during September and October 2017:

    • Webster Street to Stanley Street: 4-13 September
    • Louise Street to Doonan Road, including Vincent Road: 12-27 September
    • Doonan to Taylor Road, including Marita Road: 25 September to 9 October
    • Williams Road to Meriwa Street: 10-23 October 2017


    The works will be undertaken during weekdays between the hours of 5:30 am – 3:00 pm on the westbound verge and 10:00 am – 5:00 pm on the eastbound verge, with single lane closures in place around the work site.

    The works will include:

    • Kerb and minor paving removal
    • Installation of new drainage pits
    • Service lid re-levelling works
    • New kerb installatin
    • Remove and reinstate crossover aprons
    • Paving works

    The section of pathway between Williams Road and Meriwa Street will require the removal of trees which have been identified as a safety hazard.

    Access and Road Closures

    Signage will be displayed on the approaches to the works area and on-site traffic controllers will be providing assistance to motorists and pedestrians to safely traverse the area.

    If you are a resident or a property owner, there may be a period of time following the installation of a new concrete crossover or paving where you cannot have vehicle access to your property. In this instance, Civcon Civil will liaise with you to arrange secure parking at the City of Nedlands library car park.

    The City will be undertaking an upgrade of the Leon Road footpath (north side), between Victoria Avenue and Robert Street from Monday, 4 September 2017 for a period of up to three weeks.

    The works will involve the removal of the slab footpath and replaced with a 1.5 metre concrete footpath on the north side of Leon Road.

    During the works, the City will also be closing sections of the footpath. These closures plus the works being undertaken will affect access to some properties. The City will work with property owners during this time to assist with any access issues.

    Changes to reticulation on the verges are not required for this project, however if you are a resident or property owner, please check your reticulation once the work has been completed. Any damages must be reported within two weeks of completion of the works. If the City damages any reticulation it will carry out repairs.
