    Issues in relation to the parking and traffic issues have been an ongoing concern for the City and residents. Community engagement on proposed options has concluded. The results from the engagement are being assessed by Council officers. A report will then be presented to the Council.

    Work is progressing on the Greenway project at Point Resolution with signage installed and site preparation underway including the initial control of grass weeds and the installation of fencing. These are the first steps in progressing the converting a section of the reticulated lawn area to native garden with low-growing, locally occurring native shrubs and ground covers.

    This project is part of a larger project to enhance the existing Greenway corridor at Point Resolution Reserve, by increasing the area of bushland.

    This project will assist with the City’s aims of protecting biodiversity, reducing erosion, providing improved habitats, connectivity for local fauna and increasing the City’s capacity to absorb greenhouse gas emissions.

    Greenway plantings have been completed on the corner of Smyth Road and Verdun Street, Nedlands. This project, funded in the 2015/16 Annual Budget, provides an extension to the Greenway along Smyth Road, between Aberdare Road and Verdun Street.

    Plant selection was based on the existing Smyth Road theme, to create both an aesthetic and uniform appearance. The landscaping was enhanced with some garden edging and the application of mulch.

    The revegetation project is now progressing with signage installed on the site. Site preparation has commenced including initial control of priority weeds such as Pelargonium, trachyandra and tetragonia and brushing works has also commenced to stabilise the dunes.

    The project includes the revegetation of degraded areas along the coastal dunes, and an intensive restoration in an area at the most northern end of Marine Parade, Swanbourne adjacent to the Shorehouse Restaurant, and within the Swanbourne sand dunes.

    The revegetation project is supported by the Swanbourne Coastal Alliance and The Western Australian Planning Commission's Coastwest Grants Program 2015/16.

    A refurbishment of the historic Peace Memorial Rose Garden arbor has commenced. The roses have been pruned to avoid any damage, and the irrigation and electricity has been disconnected. On-ground works are expected commence from 8 June 2016 with temporary fencing to be installed the week prior.

    This work is being undertaken by experienced contractors, with support from the State Heritage Council and heritage engineers.

    As part of the ARIA Apartments development on Milyarm Rise, the intersection of Alfred Road is being upgraded to provide improved access for service and emergency vehicles and to improve intersection safety. Civil works have commenced and will continue during May 2016 which will include intersection widening, street light modification, new parking bays, landscaping and footpath modification.     As part of the Christ Church Grammar School playing fields development, a new crossover is being installed on Stephenson Avenue, approximately 250 metres north of the Montgomery Avenue intersection to allow the school to access the car parking and sporting ovals. Works have commenced and will continue through May 2016, which will include intersection widening, installing a new traffic island, undertaking earth works, street lighting and a shared pathway modification.     The installation of a 1.5 metre wide limestone coloured concrete path (approx. 90m2), connecting the Mount Claremont Community Centre playground to the Whitney Crescent bushland has been completed.

    This path improves access to the Community Centre and surrounds from Whitney Crescent, by linking in with the recently constructed limestone path within the Town of Cambridge; and improves access to the barbecue and picnic facilities.

    Increasing the vegetation of the existing greenway corridor at Smyth Road/Verdun Street Greenway has commenced with spraying to remove the grass. This project converts part of the reticulated lawn area to native garden, followed by planting and the installation of certified mulch in May. Revegetation will consist of low-growing, locally occurring native shrubs and ground covers.

    Allen Park Pavilion is about to receive a much needed refurbishment.

    This project is in line with the City’s ten year Strategic Community Plan which addresses the sporting and recreational needs of the community.

    The refurbishment includes some demolition and construction of new change-rooms, refurbishment of the hall, along with internal changes to provide for a new kitchen/kiosk, toilets, storage and a new patio. Fencing upgrades will also occur.

    The Council awarded the construction contract and works will commence from June/July 2016.
