The streets are currently zoned unrestricted on Whitfeld Street and no-parking on Saturdays, from April to September on Kirwan Street.
A parking survey has been undertaken of the area. As a result, the City is proposing to re-zone the northern side of Kirwan and Whitfeld Streets as three-hour parking and on the southern side as no-parking. A plan of the proposed changes is below (click on heading above).

Park benches and picnic tables along the new pathways will be upgraded with concrete slabs in the coming months to assist the City meet its disability access requirements.

Share City of Perth Project - Community parklets on Hampden Road on Facebook Share City of Perth Project - Community parklets on Hampden Road on Twitter Share City of Perth Project - Community parklets on Hampden Road on Linkedin Email City of Perth Project - Community parklets on Hampden Road linkCLOSED: This discussion has concluded.Two new temporary parklets have been developed by the City of Perth in Hampden Road, Nedlands - the first parklets for the City of Perth – are set to increase vibrancy, support local business and foster community engagement as part of a new trial by the City of Perth.The parklets installed (one on Friday 10 May and a second by Friday 17 May) will provide seating, a free community book nook and a designated area for dogs, encourages locals to linger longer, grab a bite to eat and enjoy a little time out with their four-legged friend.One parklet is outside the ice-cream parlour, Baskin-Robbins, with the second taking up residence outside Burgermeister.There will be surprise and delight activation across May, including live acoustic music sets at lunchtime on Fridays.Hampden Road shops, restaurants, cafes and dessert spots will be offering special discounts and deals during the trial, which will run for three months. Visitors will be asked to have their say on the activation via a survey for the chance to win a month’s worth of free coffee from a local vendor.If the trial is well received, the City of Perth will look to extend it and potentially work with other community groups and businesses to install parklets in other areas across the city.Parklets have been used successfully around the world to enhance street amenity by offering interesting spaces, attracting people and creating community vibrancy. -

This project is progressing well with brush wailing installed in April and weed control ongoing. The site is on track to be planted with local provenance seedlings in June.

Work will commence on the western end of the road (adjacent to Karrakatta Cemetery), by blocking off existing parking areas, 50 metres at a time.

These works will include:
- Kerb removal, earthworks and drainage
- Road profiling
- New asphalt base course
- New kerb and footpath installation
- Backfilling
- New asphalt wearing course
The works will commence on Leura Street on the 6 May 2019 for a period of six weeks between the hours of 7am and 5pm.
Some preparatory works will need to be undertaken outside of these dates and may include kerb removal, and paint markings.
Road closures will be in place with detours around the work site. Local traffic will continue to have access and on-site traffic controllers will be happy to assist.

This upgrade will improve accessibility and enable access to a wider section of the community and also maintain compliance with the Australian Standards.
This work is progressed following the removal of a double swing in August 2017 and the subsequent replacement with temporary play equipment. The City will also top up the white sand.
