City of Perth Project - Community parklets on Hampden Road

CLOSED: This discussion has concluded.

Two new temporary parklets have been developed by the City of Perth in Hampden Road, Nedlands - the first parklets for the City of Perth – are set to increase vibrancy, support local business and foster community engagement as part of a new trial by the City of Perth.

The parklets installed (one on Friday 10 May and a second by Friday 17 May) will provide seating, a free community book nook and a designated area for dogs, encourages locals to linger longer, grab a bite to eat and enjoy a little time out with their four-legged friend.

One parklet is outside the ice-cream parlour, Baskin-Robbins, with the second taking up residence outside Burgermeister.

There will be surprise and delight activation across May, including live acoustic music sets at lunchtime on Fridays.

Hampden Road shops, restaurants, cafes and dessert spots will be offering special discounts and deals during the trial, which will run for three months. Visitors will be asked to have their say on the activation via a survey for the chance to win a month’s worth of free coffee from a local vendor.

If the trial is well received, the City of Perth will look to extend it and potentially work with other community groups and businesses to install parklets in other areas across the city.

Parklets have been used successfully around the world to enhance street amenity by offering interesting spaces, attracting people and creating community vibrancy.
