  • Waroonga Road - Road Resurfacing and Associated Works

    Road resurfacing and associated works on Waroonga Road, between Stirling Highway and Princess Road are close to completion with the verge reinstatement works to be completed in January 2017. The works will included kerb removal and installation of new kerbing, installation of new drainage pits, and road resurfacing.

    The City is progressing well with the detailed design including finalising the landscape design, materials, engineering drawings and tender documentation. Development approval for the project from the Minister for Environment and Heritage is imminent (hopefully within 4 weeks). The City will be tendering for some elements of the work and hopes to commence preliminary stage one works in early 2017.

  • Taylor Road (between Stirling Highway and Princess Road) - Road Resurfacing and Associated Works

    Roads2000 have been contracted to undertake road resurfacing and associated works in Taylor Road for a five week period commencing on 23 January 2017. These works will be undertaken during weekdays between the hours of 7.00 am to 5.00 pm.

    Road closures will be required with detours in place. These closures will cease at approximately 4.30 pm each day to minimise inconvenience, however we do ask that residents consider increasing their commuting times during peak periods.

    Access to your property will be available at all times, however there may be short periods when access cannot be permitted. On these occasions, the City will ensure that contact has been made with you and suitable alternative arrangements have been agreed.

    The kerbing will also be replaced and upgraded and where necessary the reticulation will be temporarily rerouted to allow the works to proceed. If the reticulation on your property is damaged during this process, the City will make good the repair. However it is important that the reticulation system be tested and any faults be reported to the City within two weeks of the works being completed. After this period the City cannot be held responsible for repairs.

    Profiling works

    6 February 2017

    Asphalt corrector

    7 February 2017

    Spray sealing

    8 February 2017

    Kerb installation

    10 February 2017

    Brick paving

    3 February 2017

    Backfilling

    15 to 17 February 2017

    Asphalting

    20 February 2017

    The installation of the new playground at St Peters Square is nearly completed. The softfall rubber and sand is to be completed which should be finished by the week ending 16 December 2016.

    Western Power have completed the underground cable relocation works. The City have also completed the final works for this project.

    Works completed included the installation of pram ramps, connecting the footpath from Lyons Street to North Street, laying asphalt final surface and finishing works.

    The annual customer satisfaction survey for participants in the Nedlands Affinity Club has now closed. The survey aimed to identify the level of satisfaction with the service provided to its members, in particular the activities program provided along with receiving suggestions for new activities as a way of engaging long-term and new members to our Club.

    The Nedlands Affinity Club is part of The Nedlands Positive Ageing program which was formed to offer health enhancing activities that are stimulating and at a nominal cost.

    The Club offers the opportunity for seniors to sample something new and make new friends. It has a 'can do' attitude to life and enhances the wellbeing of our members. Members participate in weekly and monthly activities, which range from a walking group, to table tennis, yoga, Tai Chi, line dancing to iPad for seniors. Talks are held with members of the community, members see movies together and attend social events.

    Feedback will be collated and considered as part of the planning of activities for 2017. The outcomes of the survey and updates will be provided on the News Feed tab on the engagement page.

    The City would like to inform all residents the current resurfacing and associated works have been put on hold due to a potential underground cable relocation by Western Power.

    Western Power has identified underground cables in the drainage pit on the north-east corner of Lyons Street and North Street, and are currently considering solutions for relocation. The City is working with Western Power to coordinate the works to minimise disturbance to rehabilitated areas.

    We appreciate your patience as we work towards implementing a solution as soon as practicable and apologise for any inconvenience experienced during this period.

    Works to be completed include:

    • Installing pram ramps
    • Connecting the footpath from Lyons Street to North Street
    • Laying asphalt final surface
    • Finishing works

    When is this happening?

    Until the extent of the works has been confirmed by Western Power the City is currently looking at a completion time frame of approximately three months for the relocation of these cables.

    During this period, the road will be opened as normal, however traffic management signage and cones will be placed in any areas not yet complete.

    The City has replaced the spring rider at Leura Park playground with a three-seated version, complete with soft fall and border surround. The upgrade ensures the playground remains a safe and enjoyable area for children to play.

    Following the completion of the Local Planning Strategy and its submission to the Western Australian Planning Commission, the City has now commenced the preparation of the new Local Planning Scheme No.3.

    The Council have been attending a series of workshops to finalise the details of the new Local Planning Scheme 3. Once Council has formally considered and refined the draft Scheme, it will submit it to the Western Australian Planning Commission for approval to advertise and to seek public comment in 2017.
