Local Planning Policies - Reviews and Development

The City will review and advertise local planning policies on a case-by-case basis depending on the extent of the changes and in line with the Deemed provisions.

The City's review of local planning policies seeks to update the City’s administrative, issue and area-specific policies to ensure they are relevant and facilitate appropriate community views and development outcomes. These reviews will also meet current legislative requirements.

The City regularly invites submissions for all newly drafted or amended local planning policies for a minimum of 21 days as they are developed and approved by the Council for community engagement purposes.

This site provides all notices of drafted and amended policies, information on the status of policies and provides you with the opportunity to give feedback.

The City believes community input provides valuable information to assist the Council in making decisions regarding approval of policies.

How can you get involved, find out more or provide feedback?

If not already registered, please use the "Register to be involved" tab at the top of this page. This ensures your submission will be recorded.

  • Read the documents relevant to each policy review in the document library.
  • Complete the online submission relevant to the policy you are commenting on (including uploading attachments).
  • Read the FAQs to find out more about the proposals and the process for review.

    The Council at its October 2020 Ordinary Council Meeting adopted amendments to the Local Planning Policy – Short Term Accommodation in accordance with the Planning and Development (Local Planning Schemes) Regulations 2015 Schedule 2, Part 2, Clause 4, following community consultation.

    In accordance with the Planning and Development Act 2005 Schedule 2, Part 2, Clause 4 the City of Nedlands has prepared and advertises Draft Local Planning Policy Hollywood Central Transition Zone.
    This Policy is for the purpose of introducing built form provisions to facilitate a gradual transition between high and low density areas adjacent to Stirling Highway in the Hollywood Central Transition Zone.

    The draft policy is available for viewing in the document library and comment via the submission form.
    Submissions close 5pm Saturday 7 November 2020.

    The Council at their Ordinary Council Meeting 22 September 2020 resolved to advertise Draft Local Planning Policy – Design Review Panel.

    This Policy is for the purpose of establishing an independent Design Review Panel which will act in an advisory capacity only. The Panel will play a vital part in improving the design quality and functionality of new development within the City of Nedlands and provide the City with a range of expert advice on architecture, urban design, landscape architecture, sustainability and other design aspects of proposals.

    The Policy is available for viewing in the document library and available for comment via the submission form. Submissions close 5pm Saturday 31 October 2020.

    This Policy provides guidance to applications for residential development within the Melvista Transition Zone.

    In accordance with the Planning and Development (Local Planning Schemes) Regulations 2015 Schedule 2, Part 2, Clause 4, the City of Nedlands has prepared and advertises modifications to the Parking Local Planning Policy.
    The purpose of this policy is to define standards for car parking for residential and non-residential developments. The amendments relate to the parking ratios for Residential Aged Care Facilities. Altering the ratio from 12 bays or 1 per every 4 beds (whichever is greater) to 12 bays or 1 per every 3 beds (whichever is greater).

    The Council at their Ordinary Council Meeting on 28 July 2020 resolved to adopt Local Planning Policy: Dalkeith Road - Stanley Street Laneway and Built Form Requirements in accordance with the Planning and Development (Local Planning Schemes) Regulations 2015 Schedule 2, Part 2, Clause 4, following community consultation.

    Please note that this policy requires approval from the West Australian Planning Commission in relation to modification of State Planning Policy 7.3 Residential Design Codes Volume 1 in accordance with clause 7.3.
