Welcome to the City's dedicated page for existing and future laneways within the City!

The City is currently creating an overarching plan in relation to the widening of existing laneways and the creation of future laneways throughout the City but in particular which service properties that have been up coded/rezoned under Local Planning Scheme 3 (LPS3).

This page provides more details about the ways in which the City is using a series of planning instruments to develop and implement a holistic approach to the management and creation of laneways throughout the City.

  • Draft Existing Laneways Local Planning Policy

    In accordance with the Planning and Development Act 2005 Schedule 2, Part 2, Clause 4 the City of Nedlands has prepared and advertises Draft Local Planning Policy Existing Laneways.

    This Policy is for the purpose of detailing the requirements relating to the ceding and construction of existing Laneways within the City of Nedlands.

    The Policy is available for viewing on the Local Planning Policies page.

    This Policy will have a longer than usual engagement period; over the next few months, the City will contact affected landowners directly to inform them of the engagement process going forward.

  • Doonan Road Laneway Policy Revoked at the September 2020 OCM

    City of Nedlands Council resolved at the September 2020 Ordinary Council Meeting to revoke the Doonan Road Laneway Local Planning Policy in accordance with the Planning and Development (Local Planning Schemes) Regulations 2015 Schedule 2, Part 2, Clause 6.

  • Local Planning Policy: Dalkeith Road to Stanley Street Laneway and Built Form Requirements - Adopted OCM July 2020

    The Council at their Ordinary Council Meeting on 28 July 2020 resolved to adopt Local Planning Policy: Dalkeith Road - Stanley Street Laneway and Built Form Requirements in accordance with the Planning and Development (Local Planning Schemes) Regulations 2015 Schedule 2, Part 2, Clause 4, following community consultation.

    Please note that this policy requires approval from the West Australian Planning Commission in relation to modification of State Planning Policy 7.3 Residential Design Codes Volume 1 in accordance with clause 7.3.

    This Policy is available as part of the City's Local Planning Policies accessed via the City's website and copies can also be viewed at the City's Administration Building located at 71 Stirling Highway, Nedlands, WA 6009

    A Community Information Session will be held by appointment only on Tuesday 16 June 2020 from 4pm–6pm at the City of Nedlands Council Chambers in which City Planning Officers will be able to assist with general enquiries on this Draft LPP. Bookings will be available in 15 minute intervals. Please call the City of Nedlands Planning Department to book a slot.

    COVID Restrictions: Due to current limits placed on indoor gatherings and the capacity of the meeting room, confirmed appointments to the Community Information Sessions are essential to able to attend. To secure your appointment, please contact the City on 9273 3500.

    The Council at its April 2020 Ordinary Council Meeting resolved to prepare and advertise for a period of 21 days the Jenkins Laneway Policy Local Planning Policy. This policy provides laneway requirements for the establishment of an east-west laneway between Taylor Rd to Dalkeith Rd.

    The policy is available for viewing in the document library and for comment via submission form on the Local Planning Policy page.

    Submissions have been extended to now close 5pm Tuesday 23 June 2020.

  • Draft LPP – Dalkeith Road to Stanley Street Laneway and Built Form Requirements

    The Council at their Special Council Meeting on 28 April 2020 resolved to prepare and advertise the Draft Local Planning Policy Dalkeith Road to Stanley Street Laneway and Built Form Requirements. This policy provides laneway requirements for the establishment of an east-west laneway over 56 Dalkeith Road, 90 Stirling Highway, 4 Florence Road and 7 Stanley Street, Nedlands.

    This policy is available for viewing in the document library.

    Submissions for this policy closed on the 6 June 2020 and it will be going back to Council for final adoption in July/August 2020.

  • Draft LPP - Smyth Road, Gordon Street and Langham Street Laneway and Built Form Requirements

    The Council at its March 2020 Special Council Meeting resolved to prepare and advertise for a period of 21 days the Smyth Road, Gordon Street and Langham Street Laneway Local Planning Policy.

    This policy provides laneway requirements for the establishment of an east-west laneway between 92 and 94 Smyth Road, Nedlands and 33 and 35 Langham Street, Nedlands.

    Submissions for this policy closed on the 11 April 2020 and it will be going back to Council for final adoption in June 2020.

  • Doonan Road, Jenkins Avenue, Vincent Street, Laneway and Built Form Requirements Local Planning Policy

    The Council at their Special Council Meeting in January 2020 resolved to prepare and advertise the Draft Local Planning Policy Doonan Road, Jenkins Avenue, Vincent Street, Laneway and Built Form Requirements. This policy provides laneway requirements for the establishment of a laneway between 16 and 18 Doonan Rd, Nedlands through to the 19 and 21 Vincent St, Nedlands. The laneway will run on an east-west axis.

    Following the May 2020 Ordinary Council Meeting Council resolved to adopt the policy for final. Please note that some of the built form provisions for this Policy are subject to West Australian Planning Commission Approval in line with the Residential Design Codes Volume 1. The policy has been referred to the Commission for their endorsement.
