Carrington Park - Enviro-scape Master Plan
Consultation has concluded
The City is now progressing with the implementation of the enviro-scape master plan as a result of the community engagement activities undertaken.
The strategic vision developed takes into account the park’s future use and development, alignment to current service levels and budgets. Issues addressed included the natural and built environment, water quality and conservation, climate change, along with accessibility, amenity, community use and ensuring the park is fit for purpose.
In developing the plan, the City identified and researched a range of topics, possible constraints, opportunities and issues relevant to Carrington Park.
The enviro-scape master plan aims to ensure community needs are met in the most economical way possible for the Park’s lifespan.

To celebrate the re-launch, the City of Nedlands provided a free sausage sizzle and games for kids and dogs on October 12, capped off by a ceremonial tree planting by Nedlands Mayor Max Hipkins.

Major works nearing completion

- All concrete paths and kerbs.
- All fencing.
- New double gate system for dogs.
- Irrigation reinstatement.
- Drink fountain.
The following works are still in progress and scheduled for completion by the week ending 14 September:- Basketball half court upgrade.
- Landscaping.
- Turf installation.
- Installation of dog bows to the drink fountain.
All major works are scheduled for completion by the week ending 14 September, however the new turf in the dog section will need some time to allow the grass to set root in the ground before opening up, this may take a further two to three weeks dependent on the weather.Thank you for your patience while this important City project is being completed. -

- Extension of plumbing and soak well for future dog tap/trough
- Removal of panels of fencing for concrete access (to be bunted)
- Construction of path and associated concrete works
- Reinstating of reticulation system
- Delivery of coarse river sand for Dog sand pit
- Construction of garden kerbing
- Construction of limestone border for dog sand pit
- Installation and upgrade of fencing and gates
- Reinstating of turf and landscaping
During the concrete installation, it will be necessary to close the playground on safety grounds. A notice will be displayed on site.
Works are proceeding according to the schedule.

The installation of the underground stormwater drainage is approximately 50% compete.

The first most pressing improvements is the drainage and the landscaping. These projects are due to commence late June for the dog exercise area. As this is a major project and consumes the entire exercise area, the City will be closing the park for approximately nine weeks from 25 June 2018.
This work will also include the rediesign of the entry from Weld Street, reconfiguation of fencing, new plants and exo-zones, ACROD parking, footpath and dog waste bins.
During this time, the children's playground will be open, but only accessible from the Carrington Street entrance.

Are you a smoker?

Section 107(c) of the Tobacco Products Control Act 2006, provides the City with the power to enforce no smoking within 10 metres of playground equipment.
Please note, that there are signs at all playground areas in parks within the City indicating no smoking.

The first of these works will be the drainage improvements. The City is currently organising the purchase of the drainage units. When these arrive, the City will progress with the works. It is expected that the on-ground works will commence in June.
Following the completion of the drainage upgrade, all other works will follow. Advise on works being undertaken on this important City park will be provided as they are scheduled. To find out what is happening, please visit this engagement page for updates.
The community will also be advised of works as they are commencing in the monthly Nedlands News Update in the Post Newspaper and via signage in the Park.

Council decides on Option 1 for Carrington Park

- Option 1 - Increased children’s play area from the current area, and a fully fenced dog space with access from Weld and Broome Streets
- Option 2 - Increased children’s play area with reduced dog space from Option 1, and a fully fenced dog space with access from Weld Street
- Option 3 - The same sized children’s play area, from Option 2, and a dog space open at Weld Street.
The Council approved Option 1 which achieved a 53.2 per cent preference by the community. Options 2 and 3 received 23.4 per cent each.The agenda (Item 13.11, page 52 of the Agenda) and Minutes (Item 13.11, Page 16) can be found on the City's website under Your Council>Agendas, Minutes and Reports . The report includes the community engagement results.The City will now finalise the enviro-scape master plan for the park and commence its implementation. The first priority is to upgrade the underlying drainage filtration. -
