OVERVIEW
In May 2023 the City of Nedlands signed on to become a 'participating Council' with the West Metropolitan Regional Council (WMRC), providing our residents with access to the Recycling Centre at 60 Lemnos Street, Shenton Park, to dispose of various recyclable items for free.
Our agreement with the WMRC is nearing renewal and as part of our commitment to continued service improvement, the City is reviewing the community's participation rate for this initiative.
Maintaining this agreement will cost the City approximately $80,000 annually, or around $9.60 per household for the 2025/26 financial year. This cost has previously been incorporated into the annual Residential Waste Services fee and applied uniformly to all City of Nedlands households regardless of use. This fee is applied as part of your annual rates notice.
Currently, the City provides various waste disposal and recycling servicesthrough our weekly kerbside bin collections, the twice-yearly bulk rubbish collection, and the three recycling stations located at Council Administration, and both Libraries. Therefore, the service provided through the WMRC is supplementary to the services already provided by the City.
HAVE YOUR SAY
The City of Nedlands is now seeking feedback from all households to determine whether continuing our agreement with the WMRC provides value for money and is meeting the needs of our community.
To give your feedback, please complete the community survey linked below.
This consultation will close at 5pm, Friday 25 July 2025 and results will be presented to Council for consideration.
This survey can be provided in alternative formats upon request. Please email the Communications and Engagement Team via yourvoice@nedlands.wa.gov.au to request this survey in an alternative format.
