Keep watch for aquatic pests while crabbing
Share Keep watch for aquatic pests while crabbing on Facebook Share Keep watch for aquatic pests while crabbing on Twitter Share Keep watch for aquatic pests while crabbing on Linkedin Email Keep watch for aquatic pests while crabbing linkCLOSED: This discussion has concluded. If you are crabbing over summer, the Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development is calling on you to report any unusual crabs you find, particularly Asian paddle crabs. By reporting suspected aquatic pests could help eradicate them before they take hold.An invasion of this pest crab species has already occurred in New Zealand and, given the previous reports here in WA, we need to take extra care to avoid a similar impact as they spread quickly. The Asian Paddle Crab Marine Pest Alert brochure will help crabbers be aware of its distinguishing features, especially the sharp spines on the front of the shell between the eyes. In contrast, the small brown native four-lobed swimming crab, which has often been mistaken for the pest, has no spines between the eyes.If you think you have found an Asian paddle crab, please examine it closely (if possible comparing it against the pest alert, which is available online at www.fish.wa.gov.au and make a note of where you saw or caught it.Fishers are also urged to take photos of the suspect crab, especially from above, keep thespecimen and phone the FishWatch 24 hour hotline on 1800 815 507 as soon as possible.

Share A new multi-purpose electronic scoreboard for Allen Park oval on Facebook Share A new multi-purpose electronic scoreboard for Allen Park oval on Twitter Share A new multi-purpose electronic scoreboard for Allen Park oval on Linkedin Email A new multi-purpose electronic scoreboard for Allen Park oval linkCLOSED: Project to be updated when installation date of scoreboard is known.During October, the City advised local residents and the community that it was progressing with the installation of a new multi-purpose electronic scoreboard at Allen Park Oval. The scoreboard is being constructed to cater for the AFL, cricket and casual users at Allen Park oval (click on the heading above to view the image), and this work would be undertaken from the first week of November.
Unfortunately due to unforeseen circumstances this project has been rescheduled. The new schedule will be available soon.
Proposal
The City has carefully selected a position at the base of the tree line on the north east corner to ensure residents view of the reserve is not impaired.
The benefits of this type of electronic scoreboard include a central control from the pavilion and an electronic roller-shutter that closes automatically when not in use to protect the scoreboard from the impacts of weather and acts of vandalism. The community will also be able to advertise its events and important announcements.
If you have any concerns in relation to this project, please contact the City’s Building Maintenance Coordinator, Marcus Sinden on (08) 9273 3500, or by email msinden@nedlands.wa.gov.au.

The development provides an opportunity for the area to become a focus for the western suburbs community, where people meet, eat, watch entertainment, bring their families and play.
The vision for the stadium and surrounds is that it will be a place with a strong sense of community identity and energy. It could involve buskers’ festivals, a people's art market or student music concerts – it will be a community centre or hub.
For it to be a genuine community hub, it needs to be based on the community's needs and desires. This is where the Claremont Football Club needs your help.
They are inviting your ideas, thoughts and comments via an online survey. Click here to access the survey.
