The City of Nedlands is inviting your comments on a Development Application (DA) at No.16 & 18 Betty Street and No.73 & 75 Doonan Road, Nedlands.

The Proposal

The City of Nedlands has recently received an application for a Residential Aged Care Facility located at No.16 & 18 Betty Street and No.73 & 75 Doonan Road, Nedlands.

The proposal can be summarised as follows:

  • 90 x aged care suites
  • Four (4) storey development with basement car parking
  • Incidental café and multipurpose rooms available for resident use
  • A physio room, treatment room, hair salon and consulting room which predominately caters for resident use, however, some external customers may make a booking
  • 26 x car parking bays including 2 ACROD bays located within the basement level. Entry to the car park is via Doonan Road with an exit onto Betty Street.

The City will notify in writing all nearby property owners and occupiers of this development according to the City’s Local Planning Policy for Community Consultation for Planning Proposals.

Stakeholders are invited to submit feedback online.

Feedback received will be taken into consideration in the development of formal recommendations by the City to the DAP who will make the final decision on the proposed development.

  • Application withdrawn from DAP process

    This application has been formally withdrawn from the Development Assessment Panel process. The applicant has applied with the State Development Assessment Unit (SDAU) which is a new assessment pathway introduced under the Planning and Development Amendment Act 2020. This new pathway enables the Western Australian Planning Commission to accept and determine applications for significant development proposals over a $20 million threshold for a period of 18-months. The State Development Assessment Unit will refer all applications to the City and other regulatory agencies for comment only.

    The Council at their Special Council Meeting on 4 August 2020 resolved to prepare and advertise Draft Local Planning Policy Residential Aged Care Facilities. This Policy is for the purpose of establishing development provisions for operators seeking to establish Residential Aged Care Facilities within the City.
    This LPP replaces the former LPP Residential Aged Care Facilities that was revoked by Council on the 28 July 2020.

    The Policy is available for viewing and comment on the Local Planning Policies page.
    Submissions close 5pm Saturday 29 August 2020.

  • Community Information Session - 8 July 2020

    A Community Information Session will be held by appointment only on Wednesday 8 July 2020 from 4:00pm – 6:00pm at the City of Nedlands Council Chambers in which City Planning Officers will be able to assist with general enquiries on this application.

    Due to current social distancing guidelines and the capacity of the meeting room, confirmed appointments to the Community Information Sessions are essential to able to attend. Those without confirmed appointments will be turned away to facilitate those who have made appointments due to capacity limitations.
