The Walkway, Swanbourne (8 Sayer Street)
Consultation has concluded
The City is progressing with requesting the State Government to combine The Walkway (8 Sayer Street, Swanbourne (Lot 353) with the Allen Park Reserve.
Whilst this land has been managed for conservation for more than twenty years in conjunction with the local community, a condition is still present on the Certificate of Title that the land is to be used for the development of ‘Homes for the Aged’. The City received numerous questions and concerns relating to Lot 353 during the development of the recently adopted Allen Park Master Plan, identifying it as an important linkage route in the community and requesting that the land tenure be resolved to properly purpose the to continue being used as it is now.
In response to those concerns raised and in line with the recommendations of the adopted Allen Park Master Plan, the City intends to request that the State acquire Lot 353 back from the City in its entirety, and combine the Lot with adjacent Crown A Class Reserve. The Reserve would then be vested back to the City through a Management Order for the ongoing purpose of ‘Recreation and Conservation’. Class A reserves forever remain dedicated to the purpose declared, until by an Act of Parliament it is otherwise amended. Class "A" is used where there is a need perceived for the highest form of protection, for example "Kings Park", or national parks.
The purpose and effect of the request is to effectively preserve the whole piece of land for future recreational uses and environmental conservation, for the benefit of the City of Nedlands community and wider public.
