The Avenue Safety Improvements Project 2024/25
Consultation has concluded. Thank you for your interest and participation in this consultation project.
The Avenue Road Safety Improvements Project is part of the broader effort to enhance road safety and reduce the number and severity of crashes in our community. The Avenue between Broadway and Bruce Street has experienced 16 crashes over the past five years, resulting in significant financial costs and safety concerns. Recognized as a high-risk area, this section of the Avenue has qualified for funding under the Federal Blackspot Program, which aims to address dangerous road conditions and improve safety for all road users.
To mitigate the frequency and severity of crashes, the City plans to implement a range of safety improvement measures along the Avenue, including a new roundabout at the Avenue/Bruce Street intersection, mid-block treatments, and intersection improvements. These measures are designed to reduce vehicle speeds, enhance safety for cyclists and pedestrians, and ensure safe access to businesses and residential properties. Through careful planning and community consultation, the City aims to create a safer, more efficient road network that benefits all residents and stakeholders.
Three options are being considered with each designed to reduce vehicle speeds and improve safety for all road users. The City seeks community feedback on the preferred option;
