  • Princess Road and Bruce Street Roundabout - Road Resurfacing and Associated Works

    The City of Nedlands wishes to apologise for the unscheduled and unexpected roadworks that ran late on Thursday, 16 September 2016. During the course of the day, the Contractors experienced difficulties with machinery, unforeseen ground conditions and inclement weather that caused severe delays.

    Following a site safety audit, it was decided to proceed with the works for the benefit of the project schedule and the safety of road users, so the roundabout could be reopened the following day.

    We again apologise for any inconvenience caused.

    The roundabout intersection works is occurring as a result of substantial fatigue and cracking. Council funds along with funds from the Metropolitan Regional Road Group has enabled the work to be undertaken to upgrade this intersection. Council have also approved funding to upgrade and resurface Princess Road between Bruce Street and Broadway.

    The new expected completion date is 12 October 2016.

  • Marine Parade - Coastal Dunes Revegetation Project

    The City in conjunction with the Swanbourne Coastal Alliance have completed this project. $22,423.50 was received from the Western Australian Planning Commission through the Coastwest Grants Program 2015/16 to undertake the project “Restoration of Degraded Areas – Swanbourne Dunes”.

    5100 coastal seedlings were planted which increased the ecological value of the coastal dunes by reducing erosion and invasive weeds as well as increasing habitat and improving the aesthetics of the area. Ongoing weed control and maintenance of green stock to be undertaken as required.

    The proposal from an adjacent property owner to modify the Jutland Parade/Iris Avenue Intersection was approved by the Council at its meeting of 23 August 2016. The proposed modification will meet the clearance requirements of the Australian Standards.

    These modifications will bring more general safety benefits, through the improved layout of the intersection, as well as allowing the resident to achieve their preferred design solution.

    The City of Nedlands in conjunction with the Swanbourne Coastal Alliance received $22,423.50 from the Western Australian Planning Commission through the Coastwest Grants Program 2015/16 to undertake the project “Restoration of Degraded Areas – Swanbourne Dunes”. This project aims to restore degraded areas of the coastal dune system in Swanbourne. It is now over half way complete with 5100 coastal seedlings planted and 5100 tree guards recently installed on the Coastwest project site. This project will increase the ecological value of the coastal dunes by reducing erosion and invasive weeds as well as increasing habitat and improving the aesthetics of the area.Ongoing weed control and maintenance of green stock to be undertaken over the coming months.

    The City has commenced rehabilitation works on this section of the street on Tuesday 6 September 2016 for a period of 4 weeks.

    Lyons Street will be closed during the day, over the period of the construction works. Traffic Management personnel will be in place to assist with entering and exiting the work area.

  • Adelma Place - Road Resurfacing and Associated Works

    The City is progressing with an upgrade and resufacing of Adelma Place between Jutland Parade and the Swan River in Dalkeith. These works will include new kerbing, drainage lids and pram ramp upgrades.

    The works was undertaken by Civcon Civil on behalf of the City and commenced on Wednesday 31 August 2016. The works are expected to take approximately two weeks to complete.

    Adelma Place will be closed during the day, over the period of the construction works. Traffic Management personnel will be in place to assist with entering and exiting the work area.

    This work has now been completed.

    The Section 3.50 Consultation confirmed the community support for a left turn only arrangement at Nidjalla Loop and Alfred Road. This has been referred to Council for endorsement at the Council Meeting of 23 August 2016. Works will commence on 4 October 2016.
