St Johns Wood Boulevard - A new park being planned for the area
This park is now complete.
The new park at the undeveloped public open space (POS) west of the old Swanbourne Hospital on St Johns Wood Boulevard has been completed.
Draft playground concept plans (nature-based and modular) have been developed (see document library).
These designs take into consideration the outcomes of the previous engagement feedback which was undertaken for the development of the park.
The City has sought multiple playground designs and is presenting two designs for your feedback based on the following criteria:
- delivery within the approved budget of $136,000 with best value for money
- best incorporated suggestions and ideas received from residents through the previous feedback
- compliance with playground safety standards
- appropriateness to the existing constructed play area
- provision of inter-generational interaction
- demonstrate a point of difference to playgrounds in close proximity.

I think pre-manufactured modular style will not blend in with the Heritage buildings of Montgomery Hall.
We should also consider the proximity of the Aged Care residence.
Please could you add a doggy disposal bin near the playground - as the paths have become popular with dog walkers.

You have written to me seeking my feedback of the proposed playground options. Without doubt my preference would be Option B. This is far more interactive and stimulating for children and covers a wider age group.

Option A - Nature based
Additional play equipment instead of the 2 pieces of fitness equipment
As a mum of four young children we Would love to see a nature based playground. We feel it would fit the surrounds and give a difference to the other parks that are close by offering all children in the area a range of options
The proposed landscaping fails in a number of important areas :-
Water conservation - lawns should be eliminated and native trees and shrubs should be used thereby saving water
Low maintenance - without lawns there will be less requirement for labour to maintain the park (helps to reduce council cost and thus rate increases)
Native bushland - attach native birds and provide habitat, good conservation practice
Playground - not sure if needed. I would suggest the council undertake a survey of similar playgrounds in the area to gauge usage rates, attendance etc. I would suggest more pathways and seating throughout
We live next door and fully support the the idea of a children's playground within the park. All the playgrounds around this neighbourhood are somewhat small/mediocre. Shade sails or similar definitely required along with soft fall surface (synthetic). A range of play equipment to suit toddlers through to older kids welcomed. As for the proposed name - we vote Abbey Park or Montgomery Park.
Hi The park design looks great. Could you consider deciduous trees on the Northern aspects to allow maximum light through to the lawn area in winter.
Name suggestion. The Nicola Horley Park. Nicola was a tireless councillor who made a real contribution to this area.

Being an active family of teenage children who live next door to Montgomery House
we strongly believe at a BASKET BALL hoop would be a huge advantage to the residents of this area for this location. Benefiting residents of all ages supporting and encouraging a healthy life style.
