The City of Nedlands is seeking community feedback on the Draft Council Policy - Public Parking Management.

At the Ordinary Council Meeting of 26 November 2024, Council endorsed the Draft Council Policy - Public Parking Management (the Policy) for city wide consultation.

The City of Nedlands faces ongoing parking challenges across residential, commercial, and industrial areas, particularly near key locations like UWA, Hampden Road, Broadway, Monash Avenue and around small businesses. In addition to existing regulations under the Parking and Parking Facilities Local Law 2013, a comprehensive parking guideline would enhance parking management effectiveness and equity within the City of Nedlands. The high demand for parking around the City has led to congestion and pedestrian safety concerns as vehicles extend onto residential streets. Influenced by other local governments' policies, the proposed Policy includes general parking controls such as paid parking, time-restricted parking, and permit parking.

An adopted Public Parking Management Policy will provide the following benefits:

  • Greater clarity and consistency with parking permits for both residents and the wider community.
  • Encourage the turnover of parking bays through the implementation of paid parking.
  • Encourage the use of active transportation, including public transport.
  • Revenue income generation for the Council.
