Phase 1 Progress - Council adopts the Scheme Review Report

In June 2025, a Scheme Review Report was presented to Council, formally initiating the review process. This report provides a comprehensive audit of the existing Scheme and Strategy, identifying areas that require updates or improvements. It also assesses how well the current documents align with the Planning and Development Act 2005 and broader changes in the Western Australian planning framework.

The Scheme Review Report sets the foundation for the next stages of the project, guiding the preparation of a new Local Planning Strategy and future amendments to the Scheme. It ensures that the City’s planning documents continue to support sustainable growth, community wellbeing, and strategic development.

The City has now referred the Scheme Review Report to the Western Australian Planning Commission (WAPC) for final determination in accordance with Regulation 67, of the Planning and Development (Local Planning Scheme) Regulations 2015. Once the WAPC approves the Review Report, Phase 1 of this project will be complete.

Community engagement is a key part of this process. As we move forward, we encourage residents and stakeholders to stay informed and get involved. This project page will be regularly updated with news, opportunities to provide feedback, and details about upcoming workshops as we progress through each phase.
