Local Planning Policies - Reviews and Development
The City will review and advertise local planning policies on a case-by-case basis depending on the extent of the changes and in line with the Deemed provisions.
The City's review of local planning policies seeks to update the City’s administrative, issue and area-specific policies to ensure they are relevant and facilitate appropriate community views and development outcomes. These reviews will also meet current legislative requirements.
The City regularly invites submissions for all newly drafted or amended local planning policies for a minimum of 21 days as they are developed and approved by the Council for community engagement purposes.
This site provides all notices of drafted and amended policies, information on the status of policies and provides you with the opportunity to give feedback.
The City believes community input provides valuable information to assist the Council in making decisions regarding approval of policies.

violahel asked over 3 years agoIf you have received an invitation to be a part of one of our Stakeholder or Community Reference Groups and are keen to participate, you must be available for the times, duration and dates specified for that specific reference group. If you are unable to attend these meetings, there will be other opportunities to be involved in the process.

wbhomes asked about 5 years agoHi,
The Draft Residential Development LPP is currently out for readvertising to the community for a period of 21 days, which is available for viewing and comment on this page. This is due to be resubmitted to Council for final adoption at the December Council Meeting. This will then need to be sent to the West Australian Planning Commission (WAPC) who will have final approval on the LPP. The exact timeframes at this stage are unknown but we are anticipating that the policy will be endorsed by the WAPC in early 2020.

Share Hi, I understand that there is a Main Roads Scheme (MRS1210/41) intending the widen the Stirling Highway. Could you please tell me when this widening is intended to occur? Could you please tell me whether there will be islands in between the two sets of lanes? Could you please tell me whether these islands will prevent traffic turning north from the South/West traffic into either Loftus St or Ord St? Share In light of the recent development application open for comment - 18 Cooper Street, Nedlands - Ten Multiple dwellings (DA19-38065) - I feel there is a lack of local planning guidance for developments that are in r-codes R60 or greater. I understand the City has development Residential Development Planning Policy for developments R40 or below (modifying or outlining local planning policies in relation to SPP7.3 Resiential design codes - Volume 1). Is the City planning on similar local planning policy for SPP 7.3 - R-Codes Volume 2 - Apartments? It seems (18 Cooper being the first of many). The City needs to respond to developers with a local planning policy in order to rein in what these multi-dwelling developments can / should conform to for the sake of attempting to meet the City's local planning strategy with respect to retaining some semblance of Nedland's character pertaining to street-scape, bulk, height, scale, etc. on Facebook Share In light of the recent development application open for comment - 18 Cooper Street, Nedlands - Ten Multiple dwellings (DA19-38065) - I feel there is a lack of local planning guidance for developments that are in r-codes R60 or greater. garrychong asked over 5 years agoThank you for your question regarding the development controls that the City will be implementing to manage the construction of multiple dwelling developments.
Volume 1 of the R-Codes provides guidance for the development of single houses and grouped dwellings and the City’s Local Planning Policy – Residential Development includes further guidance around streetscapes, front & rear setbacks and other elements. Volume 2 of the R-Codes provides guidance for multiple dwelling developments, and also allows a local government to introduce localised controls to specify a similar level of guidance.
The City is currently in the process of creating Precinct Plans that will be applicable to designated areas, generally those that permit multiple dwelling developments. These Precinct Plans are the mechanism by which the City shall introduce controls for large scale developments, and community input will be critical to the development of those Precinct Plans.
The Precinct Plans will therefore provide the much needed localisation of Volume 2 of the R-Codes and cover aspects of development including streetscape, bulk, height and scale of the development. It is the City’s intention to utilise these Precinct Plans to ensure that development is respectful of the existing Nedlands streetscape character, whilst also providing guidance for larger scale developments that will become more common into the future along major transportation routes and town centre locations within the City.
The City has undertaken preliminary consultation with the stakeholders in the immediate area for the Nedlands Town Centre Precinct Plan, and will soon be progressing with broader community consultation on a draft plan. Other Precinct Plans are being progressed in the coming months. Your input into these Precinct Plans would be most welcome during the consultation phases for the Precinct Plans which will occur intermittently over the next 12 months.
