    The City of Nedlands resolved at its Ordinary Meeting of Council 25 October 2016 to advertise the proposed Waste Local Law 2016 for public comment.

    The PURPOSE of the local law is to provide for the regulation, control and management of activities and issues relating to waste collection, recycling, reuse and disposal within the district of the City of Nedlands.

    The EFFECT of the local law is to control activities and manage influences on waste collection, recycling, reuse and disposal within the district of the City of Nedlands.

    The City already has local laws pertaining to waste which form part of the City's Health Local Laws 1997. It is proposed that certain sections of the Health Local Laws be repealed, and replaced with a new Waste Local Law 2016 that is clearer and better meets the needs of the City and residents.     Local Government Act 1995, s3.12

    The City of Nedlands resolved at its Ordinary Meeting of Council 23 August 2016 to advertise the proposed Parking and Parking Facilities Local Law 2016 for public comment.

    The PURPOSE of this local law is to make provisions about the regulation of parking or stopping of vehicles in all or specified thoroughfares and reserves under the care, control and management of the local government and to provide for the management and operation of parking facilities.

    The EFFECT of this local law is that a person parking a vehicle within the parking region is to comply with the provisions of this local law.

    The City of Nedlands adopted the Repeals Local Law 2016 at the Ordinary Meeting of Council on 23 August 2016.

    This repeals the Fencing Local Law 2007 and the Signs Local Law 2007. New Local Planning Policies are now in effect for fencing and signs.

    The Repeals Local Law 2016 will come into effect 14 days after publication the Government Gazette.

    The City adopted the Standing Orders Amendment Local Law at the Council Meeting on 26 July 2016. This was published in the Government Gazette on 19 August 2016 and is now in operation from 2 September 2016. Local public notice was given in the POST newspaper on 26 August 2016 and 2 September 2016.

    The City has been reviewing it's current Parking Local Law and has proposed some changes for Council to consider. A report has been put up for a decision to be made at the full Council meeting on 23 August 2016 as to whether or not any changes will be progressed.

    If a decision is made to progress any changes to the next stage, full public advertising will take place and formal public comment on the proposed changes will be sought.

    You can download a copy of the proposed changes to the local law from the document library. The full report that has been put to Council for consideration can also be found on the City's website here, this provides a summary of the changes proposed and how this will impact on the community.

    The changes proposed are intended to increase amenity benefits for City residents and rate payers, make the local law clearer and improve safety. The City is not seeking public comment on these currently as Council have not yet made a decision as to whether these will proceed, but Your Voice will be updated to provide you with all the information you need as any updates become available, and we will be very happy to answer any questions you may have.

    The submission deadline for the proposed Standing Orders Amendment Local Law and Repeals Local Law has now passed. The City received no public submissions in response to either of these proposals, however minor changes will be made to both following feedback from the Department of Local Government and Communities. Reports to Council are now being prepared for each, and updates will be published here in 'Your Voice' for each step of the process.
