Consultation has concluded

In response to the recent application for development approval for a residential aged care facility within the City of Nedlands, the City was prompted to review its current Local Planning Scheme No.3 and Local Planning Policy provisions relating to residential aged care facilities.

In July 2020, the Council resolved to initiate a Local Planning Scheme Amendment to Clause 19 of the Scheme, which relates to Additional Uses permitted within the City of Nedlands. The Schedule of Additional Uses identifies a Residential Aged Care Facility (identified as 'Additional Use 9' under Table 1) as a 'P' (permissible) use in the following locations :

  • Lot 25 (69) Melvista Avenue, Nedlands,
  • Lots 10 (16) and 11 (18) Betty Street, Nedlands and
  • Lots 19 (73) and 18 (75) Doonan Road, Nedlands

The Scheme Amendment would result in more optimal built form outcomes through improved and more specific development requirements relating to building height, setbacks to the rear, side and street, plot ratio and a maximum R Code of 12.5 is applied to these sites.

What does this mean to you?

A Scheme Amendment involves many steps, including referral of the Scheme Amendment documentation to external agencies such as the Environmental Protection Authority for comment. Once the City is in receipt of these comments, the Scheme Amendment is formally advertised and comment from the general public is sought to help inform and shape the finalisation of the Scheme Amendment.
