  The City has completed a review of parking prohibitions on Smyth Road. The City considers the on-street parking for Smyth Road, between Stirling Highway and Gordon Street, is not appropriate due to narrow pavement width and relatively high traffic volumes of approximately 5,000 vehicles per day. The parking obstructs the flow of traffic and creates unsafe conditions for road users.

  It is proposed to change the existing 3 hour parking prohibition to No Parking 8am to 5pm, Monday to Friday. Please refer to the document library to view the proposed changed to parking prohibitions.

  The City advises that the above works have been delayed due to traffic management constraints and commenced on Monday 11 March 2019. The works should be completed within the week between the hours of 7.00am- 6:00pm. This may change dependent on weather conditions and resources.

  Works will comprise of profiling and new asphalt for the traffic and cycle lanes between Quadrangle Place and Derby Road, Nedlands.

  Road closures will be in place, with local traffic to continue to have access. On-site traffic controllers will be happy to assist.

  The City of Nedlands considers that the works to be undertaken will be of mutual benefit for ratepayers, businesses and road users of the City, and your cooperation is greatly appreciated.

  The City will be upgrading pathways in the northern section of Hollywood Reserve (see map below by clicking on the heading) the week commencing the 15 April for a period of four days.

  Pathways will be closed between the hours of 7am – 4pm and pedestrians will be diverted to adjacent pathways and gates for access to Karrakatta Cemetery, Smyth Road and Karella Street.

  The pathways are being upgraded in accordance with the City’s Natural Area Path Network Policy. Once upgraded they will consist of red asphalt. Updates on the project will be provided as the project progresses.

  The Department of Local Government Sports and Cultural Industries (DLGSC) on behalf of the Minister for Culture and the Arts is calling on organisations with the necessary skills, experience and financial resources to register their interest for long-term agreement opportunities within one of WA's significant heritage sites, the Sunset Heritage Precinct.

  Expressions of interest from suitably credentialed organisations are now being accepted and close on 20 March 2019.

  The aim of this project is to transform sunset over time into a unique government owned asset for arts, cultural and community use, which has a high level of heritage conservation, public access, amenity and engagement with the river.

  In July, Water Corporation will be working in Nedlands to reline ageing wastewater pipes near Barcoo Avenue and Thomas Street.

  Work will be undertaken by Contractors and should be a low impact to residents. The work will be undertaken from Monday to Saturday between 7am and 5pm and generally be in one area for a few days at a time.

  Refer to the document library to view a copy of the notification to residents. The contractor will be placing a similar notification in the letterbox of nearby residents prior to the work commencing.

  The annual rose pruning at the Peace Memorial Rose Garden on Stirling Highway will be starting the week of 2 July.

  Community members wanting to get some expert tips on rose pruning – to get the best spring bloom results – are welcome to attend and ask experienced gardeners any questions they may have.

  The City’s gardeners will be at the Peace Memorial Rose Garden during fine weather for several weeks to complete the pruning.

  The Water Corporation will be progressing with work at the Kingston Street pump station from Monday, 11 June 2018.

  Majority of the work will be carried out during the day, however the Water Corporation will need to undertake some night works on Tuesday, 12 June 2018.

  The Mt Claremont Library will be closed for one week in June to replace the carpet from Saturday 16 June to Friday 22 June. The Library will reopen on Saturday 23 June 2018.

  
  

  Library borrowers can return their items and use Nedlands Library during this time. Or they can keep their items until the library reopens – the loan periods will be extended during this time.

  The QEII Medical Centre is preparing an integrated master plan for the Nedlands Campus of the Medical Centre and have appointed Consultants, Creating Communities to undertake community engagement in the development of the master plan.

  You are invited to participate in this project. There are lots of ways you can get involved, including workshops, pop-up engagement areas, and a dedicated online engagement portal that has polls, surveys and will soon have an interactive campus map and ideas board.

  The first phase of the QEIIMC master planning has seen the transformation of the QEIIMC campus to include a comprehensive Cancer Centre, Harry Perkins Institute of Medical Research, Ralph and Patricia Sarich Neuroscience Research Institute, new PathWest building, Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital Mental Health Unit, the new Perth Children’s Hospital (also accommodating the Telethon Kids Institute), a multi-deck carpark, Ronald McDonald House and the Central Plant that delivers critical power and utilities infrastructure to QEIIMC campus tenants.

  The City has commenced the path upgrades at Mt Claremont Oval (click on heading above to see the map). The upgrades are expected to be completed by Friday, 20 April. The paths will be closed on weekdays between the hours of 7am and 4pm while the works are being undertaken. During this time, please use the entries to the park at Alfred Road or Cleland Street via Lisle Street or Montgomery Avenue.

  The upgraded paths will consist of red asphalt and limestone with limestone spillways installed at intervals to address water runoff.

  Signage is displayed on site to inform reserve users about the works and path closures.

  The pathways are being upgraded in accordance with the City’s Natural Area Path Network Policy.
