About the temporary changes to West Melvista Parking Restrictions

The City of Nedlands is inviting community input into proposed temporary parking restrictions surrounding ‘The Melvista’ located at 16-18 Betty Street & 73-75 Doonan Road Nedlands.

Oryx Developments will be commencing construction of ‘The Melvista’ in the coming months. This four-storey development will provide 80 aged care rooms and suites. Further information on this development can be found HERE

The majority of on-street parking surrounding the development is currently unrestricted and primarily used for residential purposes with very few commercial entities operating within the vicinity. It is anticipated that the demand for on street parking will increase markedly when the development begins its construction phase.

The City wishes to ensure the amenity of its resident, sporting clubs, and businesses are not adversely impacted by these vehicles. In the meeting held 27 June 2022, Council resolved to undertake consultation with residents, businesses and community/sporting organisations to introduce timed parking for the streets surrounding the development for a minimum of 28 days. This will allow for two-hour parking from 8am to 5pm Monday to Saturday on one side of the majority of the streets surrounding this development with the other side being designated ‘No Parking’ for the same time period.

The City is also proposing to provide alternative parking facilities for construction companies to reduce the overall impact. The parking facility that has been suggested is a section of verge on the corner of Bostock Road and Melvista Avenue adjacent to College Park. This area will provide a controlled facility for construction vehicles that reduces impact on the availability of parking for the precinct. The City expects that without a dedicated parking facility, trades vehicles will utilise parking close to the construction significantly impacting that immediate community.

The proposed parking restrictions map can be found in the Documents Library on this page.

To assist residents with on-street parking requirements, Parking Permits can be issued by the City upon application. Parking permits will be available once the proposed parking restrictions are in place. Please visit the City’s website or contact Ranger Services for further detail.

The City anticipates that after construction, further community engagement will be provided as to the future needs of the temporary parking restrictions in this precinct.

To provide you with further information and details on the changes to restrictions please refer to FAQ's and the Document Library on the right-hand side of this page.

Should you have any further questions, please contact the City on 9273 3500.

Further updates will be posted to this page.
