Draft Policy - Exempt Development

CLOSED: This discussion has concluded.

The City is inviting feedback on draft Local Planning Policy – Exempt Development (please see the document library) until 2 February 2019. Please send an email to council@nedlands.wa.gov.au or write to PO Box 9, Nedlands, WA. 6909.

The policy’s purpose is to specify the circumstances where development will be exempt from requiring development approval. Its intent is to reduce instances where the City receives a development application for structures that have no detrimental impact on the amenity of the locality. The policy elaborates on developments exempt under the Residential Design Codes of Western Australia (R-Codes).

This policy has been developed because the City regularly receives development applications for developments that are unlikely to have any significant impact on local amenity due to their location, scale and nature.

It includes provisions relating to the following developments:

  • Animal enclosures
  • Garden ornaments
  • Screen walls and fencing
  • External fixtures – solar panels
  • External fixtures – satellite dishes
  • Flagpoles and flags
  • Fill and retaining
  • Permanent outdoor cooking facilities
  • Gatehouses
  • Shade sails
  • Street walls, piers and fences
  • Non-residential external building alterations
  • Pool pump sheds
  • Carports
  • Cubby houses

Please visit the City's website to view the report (Item PD62.18, page 61 of the PDF) and Minutes (PD62.18 pg 31 of the PDF) in relation to this proposal.

A hard copy of the policy is also available at the Mt Claremont and Nedlands libraries and the City's Administration Centre, 71 Stirling Highway, Nedlands.

Submission closing date: 2 February 2019.

Planning Officer: James Fletcher
