FAQs
Why is the City of Nedlands upgrading this playground equipment?
The City of Nedlands regularly assesses playground equipment across its parks to ensure it meets current safety and compliance requirements, including the relevant Australian Standards. These standards guide the maintenance and replacement of ageing equipment to ensure safe and functional play spaces for the community.
As part of this ongoing process, the City allocates funding in its annual budget to support playground upgrades based on maintenance and upgrade priorities. Following a recent assessment, the playground at Harris Park has been identified for upgrade in line with these criteria.
Can the playground be a mixture of design options from several companies?
Unfortunately, no. The City endeavours to ensure a safe playground for all users. As part of this process, all designs comply with the relevant Australian Standards. Mixing and matching components would compromise this due to issues such as encroaching fall zones.
Will the area be shaded?
The City will be planting trees near the playground to provide natural shade over time. While artificial shade structures such as shade sails are not included in this upgrade, they may be considered in future years. Some shade elements may also be incorporated into the playground equipment itself as part of the design.
Will the park be closed during the works?
No, the park will remain open throughout the upgrade. For safety reasons, only the immediate construction area will be fenced off. All other areas of Harris Park will continue to be accessible to the public.
