Overview

The City of Nedlands is seeking community feedback on its revised draft Long-Term Cycle Network (LTCN), a strategic framework developed in partnership with the WA Department of Transport.

This plan outlines future cycling routes across the city and is essential for securing funding for future infrastructure improvements.

Summary of the Long-Term Cycle Network (LTCN)

The LTCN is a strategic, long-term conceptual plan developed in collaboration with the WA Department of Transport to guide future cycling infrastructure across the City of Nedlands.

It categorises routes into a hierarchy:

• Primary Routes [red]: high-priority, regional connections
• Secondary Routes [blue]: important local connectors
• Local Routes [green]: community-level cycling access.

We recommend reviewing the City of Nedlands Draft Long-Term Cycle Network map in conjunction with the Department of Transport's Perth & Peel Long-Term Cycle Network map, which can be found in the Links section. The West Cycle map is slightly easier to use and is also available in the Links section. Looking at these maps will help illustrate how the City of Nedlands' draft LTCN map connects with the wider Perth LTCN.

Important note: We are aware that Rockton Street has been incorrectly labelled on the City of Nedlands draft LCTN map and should be shown as Jenkins Avenue. As this map reflects the version presented to the City of Nedlands Council in the Minutes dated Tuesday 25 February (please see Documents), it must be reproduced in its original form to maintain consistency with the Council documentation.

Key Updates

• The current City of Nedlands draft LTCN reflects refinements made following the 2022 public consultation, including the removal of contentious routes such as Jutland Parade and the Cottesloe Golf Course boundary.
• The LTCN does not propose any physical changes to roads or verges at this stage. It identifies function, not form.
• Once endorsed by the City of Nedlands Council and approved by the Department of Transport, the City becomes eligible for WA Bicycle Network Grants to fund future projects identified in a forthcoming Nedlands Bicycle Plan.

What is the nature of the Long-Term Cycle Network?

The LTCN is:

• A strategic map of intended cycling routes
• A prerequisite for State Government funding
• A guide for future planning—not a construction plan.

The LTCN is not:

• A commitment to immediate physical works
• A design for specific infrastructure treatments
• A plan to alter verges, remove trees, or change roads.

Community impact

• No physical changes will occur as a result of this consultation.
• Any future works will be subject to separate design processes and further consultation.
• The LTCN helps ensure future cycling projects are well-planned, safe, and eligible for funding.
