City of Nedlands Enviroscape Plans
Round Two Consultation NOW OPEN
In April/May the City asked the community to share ideas and priorities for the future of Lawler Park and Masons Gardens. Thank you to everyone who participated.
The City received a total of 137 responses from the Round 1 consultation, which aided in informing the development of the draft Enviroscape Plans for both parks. These plans outline potential future improvements and management priorities designed to balance community needs, environmental sustainability and responsible water use.
We are now inviting residents and park users to review the draft plans and provide your final feedback before the designs are finalised and presented to Council.

Your feedback will help ensure the plans reflect community priorities and will guide future decision-making about park upgrades, facilities, landscaping, water management and long-term park planning. The City is committed to reducing groundwater usage and therefore will prioritise the waterwise initiatives outlined in these enviroscape plans. All enviroscape elements outlined in the plans will be delivered depending on budget allocation in subsequent years.

Planning our parks for the future
The Department of Water and Environmental Regulation (DWER) has announced that groundwater use will be reduced by 10% by 2028. In response, the City of Nedlands is planning ahead to make sure we can continue to care for our parks while using less water.
Our goal is to use water more wisely while still providing green, welcoming, and high‑quality parks for the community to enjoy.
What is Enviroscape Planning?
Enviroscape Planning is a strategic approach to park planning and management that balances environmental, social, cultural and economic considerations. It combines long-term planning with practical, day-to-day management and is informed by community feedback.
Enviroscape Planning is based on four key focus areas:
- Cultural vibrancy – making sure parks are easy to access, enjoyable to use, and suit the needs of the community.
- Economic responsibility – managing parks in a cost‑effective way over their full life.
- Environmental care – protecting water sources, improving water efficiency, and increasing tree canopy.
- Social inclusion – supporting strong community connections and involvement.
How this benefits our parks
Enviroscape Plans guide how the City upgrades and manages parks by focusing on:
- Smart water use through hydro‑zoning and eco‑zoning
- Better management of groundwater and the full water cycle
- Well‑designed spaces that balance access, comfort, and environmental protection
- Meeting community needs in the most cost‑effective way
- Preparing parklands for future challenges like climate change
- Prioritising where irrigation upgrades are needed most
Have your say
Residents and park users are invited to share their ideas and feedback on future improvements at two local parks:
- Lawler Park (Floreat)
- Masons Gardens (Dalkeith)
Feedback will help guide decisions about park facilities, landscaping, and future upgrades. We’re keen to hear your thoughts on:
- The natural and built environment
- Water conservation initiatives
- Accessibility and ease of use
- Comfort, amenities, and how the space is used
- Whether the park meets the needs of the community
Your input will help shape parks that are sustainable, welcoming, fit for purpose and enjoyable—now and into the future.

The two open surveys linked below will be available from Wednesday 14 October until 5pm, Tuesday 27 October 2026.
These surveys are available in alternative formats upon request to the Communications Team at communications@nedlands.wa.gov.au
The first round of consultation for this project ended Sunday 3 May 2026.
