Charles Court Reserve Lighting Upgrade
The City of Nedlands is seeking community feedback on a proposed sports lighting upgrade at Charles Court Reserve, Nedlands.
The current sports lighting at Charles Court Reserve is inadequate. It does not meet the required Australian Standards for safe sporting activity. The proposed upgrade involves removing the existing poles and installing new poles with LED light fittings. The new lighting would be designed and constructed to:
Australian Standard AS2560 (Sports Lighting) for rugby training (100/200 lux)
Australian Standard AS4282 (Control of Obtrusive Effects of Outdoor Lighting).
In the images shown below, a comparison of the current sports lighting at Charles Court Reserve and what the proposed lighting upgrade could achieve is illustrated. Taller light poles, as shown in the Figure 2, and new LED lighting technology will concentrate the light on the oval and reduce the amount of light leaving the field (light spill).
Figure 1 below shows the current level of lighting available at Charles Court Reserve.
