Do you visit the Mt Claremont shopping centre or the neighbourhood, or live in or near Asquith Street? If so, this project will be of an interest to you.

The City has developed a range of proposals to address the parking needs and amenity of the Mt Claremont shopping precinct and Asquith Park in response to numerous requests and a petition from residents to address the parking issues in this area.

Funds have been set aside in the 2018-19 capital works program to undertake works to improve the parking and amenity. Prior to this work proceeding, the City is inviting your thoughts on a range of options which have been developed.

A number of improvements have been developed for the following areas within the precinct and we now seek your preferences.

  • Area 1: Asquith Park (including current park)
  • Area 2: Parking area in front of Cellarbrations Liquor Barn
  • Area 3: Asquith Street (Strickland to Adderley Street)
  • Area 4: 25 Strickland Street
  • Area 5: Olearia Lane (rear of 25 Strickland Street)
  • Area 6: Road Reservation (Asquith Street from Mayfair Street to the Golf Club rear entrance)

How can you get involved, find out more or provide feedback?

The development application to the Council for approval of converting part of Asquith Park into a car park was approved by the Council at its meeting on 26 February 2019. Please visit the City's website (Agendas, Minutes and Reports) to view the minutes and the report (Item 13.8). The City will now program the works to commence.

The parking improvements will also include a new design for the balance of Asquith Park. The new park will extend to the Olearia Lane where the current car parking bays will be removed as part of these works. The plans include a new footpath and area for people to meet, along with new plants, flower beds and grassed areas. The existing Peppermint tree will remain to provide valuable shade in the park.

To view the proposed plans, please visit the document library on this page.

Six possible options to improve the parking, playground and park facilities at the Mt Claremont Village shopping precinct and Asquith Reserve have been put forward by the City of Nedlands.

Information sessions will be held at the Mt Claremont Community Centre’s Hakea Room on 16 August from 4pm-5pm and 5.30pm-6.30pm. An online survey is also available for people to outline their preferences.

The proposals are in response to the City receiving numerous requests and a petition from the Mt Claremont community to address parking needs in this area. As a result, funds have been set aside as part of our 2018-19 capital works program.

The survey responses will inform the final proposal and help prioritise budget allocations for the works presented to Council.

The City wants to ensure it selects the best options for the area and our community consultation is an integral part of that. We understand it’s a fine balance between parking and other needs in the area, which is why several proposals have been devised to ensure a range of options can be explored with the community.
