Reserve signage

The City of Nedlands is inviting community input into the design of the proposed sports floodlighting upgrade at David Cruickshank Reserve.

Background

The current lights provide limited lighting to less than 1/3 of the playing surface, restricting the training area during night training sessions. Additionally, the lights provide a luminance well below the current minimum Australian standard and therefore severely restrict the activities that can be undertaken safely during night use. This project aims to provide a well-lit active space that meets all Australian Standards.

Because of the limited area of the oval that can be used for night activity, a small area of ground receives concentrated use. This makes it difficult to maintain the grass surface and results in increased costs to maintain the oval to an acceptable and safe standard. Being able to use the whole reserve will enable wear on the oval to be more evenly spread, assisting with ground preservation and reducing maintenance costs.

The final design for the lighting upgrade will consider any issues identified during the community input phase, aiming to minimises any negative impact on the surrounding community.

The City will be undertaking community engagement in order to gather community thoughts on issues that can be addressed in the design of new lighting for this reserve.

How can I learn more about the proposed project?
