Strategic Community Plan - Creating Nedlands 2028

Consultation has concluded

The draft Strategic Community Plan for the years 2018-2028 was approved by Council at its meeting on 22 May 2018 and is now available for your viewing (see document library).

This plan builds on the previous plan Nedlands 2013-2023 which progresses the City towards the Vision 2030.

Nedlands 2028 will continue to set the scene for Council decisions and priorities over the next ten years with a further minor review in year two, followed by a major review in year four of the plan. The next step in the process is the development of the Council's Corporate Business Plan to give effect to the first four years of the Strategic Community Plan to ensure that the medium term commitments are both strategically aligned and affordable.

In developing the plan, the Vision, values, community aspirations, service delivery levels and affordability was considered.

    The Strategic Community Plan - Nedlands 2018-2028 was approved by Council at its meeting on Tuesday 22 May 2018.

    The Strategic Community Plan has been drafted and is scheduled for presentation to the Council during March 2018. Following presentation to the Council, feedback will be provided to the Community.

    Community drop-in sessions for the Strategic Community Plan took place on last Saturday and Monday with around 80 people coming along to help shape the future of Nedlands.

    Visitors firstly got the opportunity to see some of the key projects the City has been working on over the last four years – we really enjoyed hearing a number of people say they have noticed and been pleased with the improvements being made around the City. The document library contains a ‘Strategic Community Plan in Action’ map for each year since the Strategic Community Plan was implemented. These provide a snap-shot of the major projects and works the City has undertaken.

    Next, visitors moved onto looking at the Community and Council ‘Vision’ and were invited to think about their own vision for the City of Nedlands, then tell us what's most important to them for the City's future - and why. You can, too...visit the Vision page and let us know your thoughts..

    Visitors then looked at the City’s draft priorities and told us which priorities they believed were most important, as well as writing down any priorities they felt were missing. YIf you'd like to do the same, visit the Priorities page.

    Each person considered the neighbourhood where they lived and were invited to put markers on a map to highlight anything they wished to improve about their neighbourhood. Some people used this as an opportunity to say what they liked while others raised specific issues, or highlighted anything they felt would make their neighbourhood a bit better. You can also do this by using the My Neighbourhood tool.



  • Community Drop-In Sessions

    Join in the face-to-face conversation! We are running several Drop-in Sessions.

    There will be a number of engaging activities so you can share your views with us.

    You can come on your own or with a friend, anytime while the session is open. You can stay for as short or as long a time as you like. At a minimum, it would take about 20-30 minutes to get around the activities.

    It will be interesting, informal and fun - no boring speeches we promise!

    • Mt Claremont Community Centre, Banksia Room, Montgomery Avenue – Saturday 2 September – drop in anytime between 1pm and 5pm.
    • Dalkeith Hall, 97 Waratah Avenue – Monday 4 September – drop in anytime between 1pm and 3.30pm.
    • Dalkeith Hall, 97 Waratah Avenue – Monday 4 September – drop in anytime between 6pm and 8.30pm.

  • Past engagement on the 10-year plan - This is what we did

    The Council engaged with the community in the setting of a vision and identifying the priorities for the next ten years to the year 2023. The community, businesses, sporting groups and visitors to the City were involved in the engagement process to ensure that the new plan reflected the vision and priorities of the whole community.

    The City sought feedback which covered:

    • Confirming the 2030 Vision
    • Land use for the City’s future development
    • City-wide expenditure priorities (where greater focus was desired)
    • Local expenditure priorities

    To receive as much feedback as possible, the City undertook a number of engagement activities, as follows:
    • Nine workshops were held in the precincts of Dalkeith, Melvista/Broadway, Hollywood South/Central/Hampden Road, Carrington Industrial, Stirling Highway, Hollywood North, Mt Claremont/Floreat and Swanbourne.
    • Three open days were held at the Dalkeith Hall, Hollywood Bowling Club and the Nedlands Library.
    • Survey
    • Information was provided on the City’s website
    • Individual feedback was invited (and received) from schools, businesses and major stakeholders
    • A community conference to discuss asset investment options and the financial implications and identify preferences for the future.
