  • Ashton Avenue Bridge Replacement, Claremont

    Main Roads WA are preparing to replace Ashton Avenue Bridge in 2018 and works will be progressed until full replacement in September 2018.

    Please note: Main Roads WA will be closing the bridge to traffic from 1 February.

    The bridge will be demolished in mid-February during a scheduled rail shutdown.

  • Montgomery Avenue - Bus Shelter Replacements

    The shelters at the bus stops (No. 19469 and 14970) on Montgomery Avenue, Mt Claremont are being replaced from 4 to 23 June 2018.

    The order of activities will be as follows:

    • temporary relocation of posts (Public Transport Authority)
    • old shelter and concrete pad removal
    • installation of new concrete pads
    • installation of connecting paths to existing path network
    • curing time for concrete
    • installation of new bus shelters.

  • Montario Quarter, Shenton Park - Intersection Upgrade

    The next stage of work at Montario Quarter requires changing the existing traffic lights at the intersection of Selby Street and Nash Street to a roundabout to improve traffic flow and to provide access into Montario Quarter.

    It is expected that these road works will take up to five months to complete. During this time, there may be some disruption to road users. However, traffic and site management plans will be in place and local residents will be kept informed of activities as they near.

  • Lesley Graham Reserve and Godetia Gardens, Mt Claremont - Landscaping upgrade

    The City will be undertaking a landscaping upgrade of Lesley Graham Reserve and the Godetia Gardens nature strip (outside the Arenga Court units) from February to May (due to seasonal conditions).

    The landscape upgrade is to improve amenity of the Reserve and Gardens. Works will include creating uniform plantings using a range of waterwise plants, removing inappropriate plants, converting areas of poorly performing turf to garden beds, mulching, installing kerbing to separate the garden areas from the turf areas and constructing a small loop path.

    Unfortunately some inappropriate trees or shrubs will need to be removed as part of the landscape works, as follows:

    • Ficus adjacent to No 1 Primula Place
    • Conifers in the walkway behind No 7 and No 9 Primula Place (staged removal)
    • Conifers outside No 15 Primula Place
    • Robinia psuedoacacias (Moptops) beside memorial seat on Bromilow Green.

    Works scheduled are proposed as followed:

    • February/March 2018 - installation of kerbing and a small loop path
    • April 2018 – inappropriate plant removals
    • May 2018 - planting and mulching of garden beds.

  • Rose care demonstration a success

    The rose care demonstration held at the Peace Memorial Rose Garden by the Rose Society of Western Australia in conjunction with the City's gardeners on Wednesday 18 April was a great success. The demonstration covered:

    • rose dead-heading
    • pest and Disease identification/treatment
    • weed control, and
    • general rose care.

    Thank you to everyone who supported this event.

  • Princess Road, Nedlands (Mountjoy Road to Marita Road) - footpath maintenance works - new start date

    Works will now commence on Monday 28 May 2018 instead of Monday 14 May as previously advised and will take up to two weeks to complete.

    Works will include the removal of existing slab pavers and the installation of a new concrete footpath which will be slightly wider than the existing footpath on the northern side of Princess Road, between Mountjoy Road and Marita Road.

    The City will make the necessary reticulation adjustments to accommodate the new path. If you are a resident or property owner in the project area, and your reticulation is damaged, the City will carry out all necessary repairs. However notification of any damage must be reported to the City within two weeks of completion of the work, as the City cannot accept liability after this time.

  • Mt Claremont Oval - Upgrade of paths - nearly completed

    The City has almost completed the path upgrades at Mt Claremont Oval, with stone pitching works and bollard installation due for completion by the 24 April.

    Please remember that the paths will be closed on weekdays between the hours of 7am and 4pm while the works are being undertaken. During this time, please use the entries to the park at Alfred Road or Cleland Street via Lisle Street or Montgomery Avenue.

    Signage is displayed on site to inform reserve users about the works and path closures.

    The pathways are being upgraded in accordance with the City’s Natural Area Path Network Policy.

    The City has contracted the Company, Roads 2000 to undertake road surface upgrades and associated works on the corner of Rockton Road and Jenkins Avenue from Thursday 3 May 2018 from 7am to 3.30pm for a period of up to one week.

    The works will include the installation of new kerbs and asphalt and may also include some preparatory works outside of these dates, for example removal of existing kerbs and paint markings.

    Road closures will be in place with detours around the work site. Local traffic will continue to have access whilst closures are in place and on-site traffic controllers will be happy to assist.
