Scheme Amendment - Captain Stirling Hotel and 5 adjacent residential lots

Consultation has concluded

A complex scheme amendment (No. 212) is currently being advertised which proposes to rezone the following lots from a Hotel and Residential R10 zone to a Special Use zone. These lots relate to No. 80 Stirling Highway (Captain Stirling Hotel), and houses located at No. 2, 4, 6 in Florence Road and No. 7 and 9 in Stanley Street, Nedlands.

The Amendment is being sought to facilitate redevelopment of the site for retail, commercial, and residential purposes including retention of the Hotel and provision of a Woolworths supermarket.


It is also proposed that Schedule V of the planning scheme be amended to a Special Use Zone to include permitted uses and relevant development provisions. See document library (Scheme Amendment Text) for further information.

    Thank you to everyone who participated in the public consultation for the Scheme Amendment which closed on Wednesday 28 November 2018.

    Administration are considering the submissions received and are anticipating presenting a report to Council in February 2019.

    Council may resolve to support the amendment, support with modifications or resolve not to support the amendment.

  • Woolworths Group undertaking engagement activities

    In addition to the City’s statutory advertising and consultation process, the applicant (Woolworths Group) is undertaking their own engagement process to inform the community and stakeholders of the proposed scheme amendment and to provide the opportunity for feedback on the potential future uses within the site.

    Please note all formal submissions on the proposed Scheme Amendment should be made to the City of Nedlands prior to Wednesday 28 November 2018.

    In accordance with the Planning and Development Act 2005, notice is hereby given of the abovementioned town planning scheme amendment for the purpose of:

    1. Rezoning the following lots from a Hotel and Residential R10 zone to a Special Use zone: No.80 (Lot 1) Stirling Highway, No. 2 (Lot 21), No.4 (Lot 22), No. 6 (Lot 23) Florence Road, No. 7 (Lot 33) and No. 9 (Lot 32) Stanley Street, Nedlands; and
    2. Amend Schedule V – Special Use Zone to include permitted uses and relevant development provisions.

    Plans and documents setting out and explaining the Scheme Amendment are available at the City of Nedlands Administration Centre, 71 Stirling Highway, Nedlands for inspection during office hours up to and including Wednesday 28 November 2018.

    Plans and documents are also available for inspection at the City’s libraries by viewing the document library on this engagement page.

    The City will also be holding a community information drop-in session at the City’s offices on 24 October
    2018 from 6pm-7pm.
